(Peru, Neb.) – On Tuesday, Nov. 9, the Peru State men's basketball team took Concordia University down to the wire in Seward. The Bulldogs would pull the win out with a late three to win 91-90.
Concordia improved to a perfect 5-0 on the year while the 'Cats fell to 1-4 overall.
1st Half
The Bobcats got on the board first with a made layup by
Jibril Harris (Chicago, Ill.) with 29 seconds gone in the half. The lead would change hands after the Bulldogs made a three but the 'Cats would come right back to take the lead. Harris would make another layup as Peru State led 4-3 with 19:04 remaining.
The Bulldogs would be ahead by six points until Harris knocked down a three off the pass from
Skyler Wilson (Omaha) to cut the lead to three at 10-7 in favor of Concordia with 17:16 remaining in the half.
At the 14:19 mark of the half
Henry Tanksley (Lincoln) would make jump shot as the Bulldogs lead would be only four points at 20-16.
Halfway through the half, Concordia would have their first double-digit lead of the game at ten with the score 30-20. At the 6:38 mark the Bulldogs led by 12 at 41-29.
Peru State would outscore Concordia 20-11 to get back within three points at the half. The Bulldogs led 52-49 after the first 20 minutes.
2nd Half
Within 17 seconds the game was tied up at 52 with a made jump shot and a free throw by Harris. The Bobcats would have the lead at 55-52 after a made three by Wilson off the pass from Harris with 19:17 left in the game.
Concordia would answer with a quick 5-0 run to lead 57-55 with 18:16 on the clock. In just under a nine-minute span of the game, the Bobcats would outscore the Concordia 23-13 to lead by seven points at 78-70 with 9:30 left in the contest.
At the 6:01 mark the Bobcats would still lead by eight after a made three from
Ty Griggs (Omaha) off the pass from Wilson to make the score 87-79. Concordia would go on a 6-2 run to get within four of the Bobcats at 89-85 with 3:14 remaining in the game.
Concordia would take the lead with six seconds left to go in the game 91-90 on a three from the corner as the Bulldogs would survive at home.
Stats
Peru State shot 36-67 for 53.7% which included 14-27 from long distance for 51.9%. At the free throw line, the Bobcats made 4-7 for 57.1%.
Harris led the game in scoring with 32 points on 13-16 shooting which included 5-5 from three.
Ajantae Hogan (Lincoln) added 15 points while Wilson finished with 14 points.
Harris added eight rebounds with four of them being on the offensive side of the floor.
Wilson led the team with five assists while Harris added three.
Troy Houghton (Omaha) added two steals which led the team while Harris had one.
Hogan had the lone block for the 'Cats.
Upcoming Games
The Bobcats will be on the road in Fort Collins, Colo., for an exhibition game against NCAA DI Colorado State University on Nov. 14. Tipoff with the Rams is scheduled for 4 p.m.
On Tuesday, Nov. 16, Peru State will face their first Heart of America Athletic Conference opponent against William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The teams will face off at 7:30 p.m.
