(Peru, Neb.) – On Saturday, October 30, #13 Central Methodist University would improve to 26-5 overall and 16-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference after a 3-0 sweep over the Peru State College Bobcats.
Peru State would fall to 5-27 overall and 3-15 in the conference.
The Bobcats would strike first in set number one as
Michelle Beer (Salem) would get a kill off the set from
Hannia Rios (Toa Baja, P.R.) to lead 1-0. The Eagles would come back with three straight points to take the lead away from the 'Cats as they would jump in front 3-1.
Peru State would score two straight points off a kill from Ace Swadogo
(Omaha) off the assist from
Cassie Davis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and a kill by Beer to tie the game at three. The game would also have a tie at seven.
Peru State would go on a 5-2 run to take a three-point advantage at 12-9. The number 13 team in the nation was able to fight back and eventually tie the game at 14 all. The Eagles would take a lead on the next rally.
Central Methodist would not trail again winning the first set 25-21.
In set number two the first four points went to the Eagles before a kill from Swadogo would end the run as the 'Cats would trail 4-1.
The score would be 5-1 when Peru State scored three straight points coming from a kill from
Dawson Sharman (Sidney) off the set from Davis, a service ace from
Hannah Burianek (Lincoln), and an error on the Eagles as the Bobcat would trail 5-4.
The game would be close as there would be ties at 11, 12, 1, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18 before the Eagles would score seven straight points to win the second set and take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five match.
Peru State would get on the board first in the third set off a miscue on Central Methodist as they would lead 1-0. The Eagles would tie things up only to have the 'Cats score two straight points off a kill by Swadogo off the assist from Davis and an
attacking error on Central Methodist.
The game would be tied and three and again at four before the Eagles would go on a 11-5 run to have a 15-9 lead in the game. This run would help the Eagles win the third set of a best-of-five match 25-15.
Stats
Burianek would lead the team in service aces with two while
Cheyenne Birkle (Holden, Mo.) added one.
Jaddy Duarte (Brasilia, Brazil) would lead the team in kills with eight while Beer and Swadogo each had four.
Davis led the team with 13 assists while Rios added 11 assists of her own.
Birkle had a team-high 19 digs while Rios added eight digs.
Alexandria Chavarria
(Hollister, Calif.) led the team with three block assists.
