Grand View Sweeps Peru State VB

(Peru, Neb.) – On Tuesday, Nov. 2, the Peru State College volleyball season ended at the hands of #20 Grand View University. The Vikings won inside the Al Wheeler Activity Center 3-0.
 
The Vikings improved their record to 23-12 overall and 16-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Peru State fell to 5-28 overall and 3-16 in conference play.
 
The Bobcats would come out in the first set and score the first four points off a Cassie Davis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) service ace, an attacking error on Grand View, a kill by Alexandra Chavarria (Hollister, Calif.) off the set from Davis, and another miscue by the Vikings as they would trail 4-0 to start the game.
 
After the slow start by Grand View, they would end up going on a 14-5 run to take a five-point lead at 14-9. The run was stopped off a kill by Chavarria off the assist from Hannia Rios (Toa Baja, P.R).
 
The Vikings would use the big run that they went on to open the game to take a 1-0 lead in this best-of-five match with a score of 25-16.
 
In set number two Grand View started where they left off at the end of the first set by scoring the first two-points of the set before back-to-back errors would tie the game up at 2-2.
 
The Vikings would break the tie with three straight points to have a 5-2 lead in the game. The Bobcats would score three in a row of a kill from Chavarria off the assist from Davis, and then back-to-back miscues by Grand View as the score would be tied at 5-5.
 
The game would break open when Grand View scored six in a row before a kill by Dawson Sharman Sidney) off the assist from Davis would stop the run. The Bobcats trailed in set number two 11-6 at this point.
 
Just like in the first set the Vikings used a decent run to take control of the game early as they won set number two 25-11 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
Grand View scored the four in a row to start the third set before a service error would give the 'Cats their first point of the set and the serve as they trailed 4-1.
 
The Vikings extended their lead with a 15-1 run to lead 19-3. The run was stopped by back-to-back errors on Grand View.
 
The Viking would end the game on a 6-2 run to win the match 3-0 off a set three score of 25-8.

Davis led the team with the lone service ace for the Bobcats.
 
Chavarria and Shaman tied for a team-high in kills with five each.
 
Davis led the Bobcats with eight assists while Rios added five assists of her own.
 
Cheyenne Birkle (Holden, Mo.) added 14 digs for a team-high while Alyssa Bock (Plattsmouth) added seven and Mattie Nichols (Auburn) finished with five digs.
 
Chavarria and Ace Swadogo (Omaha) each had one block assist.
 
Upcoming Game
 
The Peru State College volleyball season has ended. The team finished with a 5-28 overall record and was 3-16 in the conference for 2021.
