(Peru, Neb.) – On Saturday, October 30, the Grand View University Vikings won their third Heart of America Athletic Conference North Division game of the year by beating Peru State 27-7. The Vikings improved to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Peru State fell to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
1st Half
Grand View would get on the board first with a 21-yard field goal on their first possession of the game. The Vikings would force a fumble and recover for a touchdown to make it 10-0 with 5:07 left in the first quarter.
On the second drive for the 'Cats,
Grant Gutschow (Elkhorn) would be able to find the endzone on a one-yard touchdown run.
Shane McInerney (Galaway, Ireland) would make the PAT to make it 10-7 in favor of the Vikings.
Grand View would get a field goal to go with 1:07 left until intermission to extend their lead to 13-7 over the Bobcats.
2nd Half
The Vikings would score a passing touchdown in the third quarter with 10:45 remaining to make it 20-7 and later would score on a 30-yard touchdown run in fourth to make to 27-7.
Stats
Both teams had problems moving the ball against each other. The teams each had under 200 yards of offense.
There was a total of 18 punts in this game for 722 yards in this game. Each team would punt the ball nine times.
The difference in the game was that the Vikings would be able to win the turnover battle 4-1.
Quinton Hawkins (Richmond, Va.) led the team in rushing with 12 attempts on 35 yards while Gutschow was second on the team in rushing with 14 attempts for 17 yards and one touchdown.
Dremel Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) had one catch for 10 yards and
Orreon Finley (Memphis, Tenn.) led the team with two catches.
Clayton Thrasher (Mandeville, La.) led the team with nine total tackles which four of them were solos.
Travis Reed (Hickman) would be second on the team in tackles with seven total. Reed would have four solos but would also pick up one sack for a nine-yard loss.
Devin Adams (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) had five tackles on the day. Adams would pick up one sack for a loss of nine and would have three solo tackles.
Upcoming Game
Peru State will be back at home for Senior Day as they host Graceland University (0-9, 0-3) at 12 p.m. inside the Oak Bowl next Saturday, Nov. 6. It will be the last home game of the season for the Bobcats.
