(Peru, Neb.) – On Saturday, October 23, Peru State College traveled to Parkville, Mo., to face the #4 team in the country in Park University. The Pirates would show why they are a powerhouse program as they would win a 3-0 sweep.
Park improved to 22-2 overall and 15-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference standings. The 'Cats would fall to 4-25 overall and 2-13 in the conference.
In set one Peru State would get on the board first with a kill by Alexandria Chavarria
(Hollister, Calif.) off the set from
Hannia Rios (Toa Baja, P.R.) to lead 1-0. Park would answer with two straight points to take the lead back at 2-1.
Peru State would score two straight points off a miscue by Pirates and a kill from
Jaddy Duarte (Brasilia, Brazil) and the 'Cats led 3-2. Park would go on a 10-2 run to take the lead back as they would now lead 12-5.
Peru State would end the on a kill from
Dawson Sharman (Sidney) off the assist from Rios. Park would still lead in the game at 12-6.
The Pirates would use a big run to win the set 25-17 to take game one in best-of-five match.
Park would score the first four points of set number two before a kill by Duarte ended the run. The Pirates would lead 4-1.
Park would then go on a 13-5 run to lead 17-6. The run would end on an attacking error as the serve would go back to the 'Cats.
The Pirates would eventually take game two 25-10 and a 2-0 lead in the contest.
Just like in set number two, Park would score the first six points before Peru State would end the run as they would trail 6-1.
Peru State would cut the lead to four after an Ace Swadogo
(Omaha) kill off the set from Rios and an error on Park would see the lead dissipate as Park would lead 12-8. Park would pull away as they would go on an 8-3 run to lead 20-11.
Peru State would make one last push, but Park would be too much as they would win the third set 25-18.
Stats
Duarte would lead the team with seven kills while Sharman added six.
Cassie Davis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) would lead the team with 12 assists while Rios added ten assists.
Cheyenne Birkle (Holden, Mo.) finished with eight digs while
Mattie Nichols (Auburn) had seven digs. Davis added five digs.
Haley VanLeuvan
(Elgin, Ore.) led the team with four block assists while Sharman added the only solo block for the Bobcats.

Peru State will be back home on October 26, when William Penn University (16-10, 9-7) comes to the Al Wheeler Activity Center. The first set will begin at 5:30 p.m.
