(Peru, Neb.) – On Friday, October 22, the Peru State College volleyball team traveled to Olathe, Kan., for a conference match with MidAmerica Nazarene University. The Pioneers would win the match in four sets 3-1 to improve to 12-15 overall and 7-7 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
The 'Cats would fall to 4-24 overall and 2-12 in the conference.
In set one MNU would find a zone right away being able to score three straight points to lead 3-0 before a kill by
Sidney Peck (Manitoba, Canada) off the set from
Hannia Rios (Toa Baja, P.R.) put the Bobcats on the board
. MidAmerica Nazarene would score four straight points before Ace Swadogo
(Omaha) would get a kill off the assist from Rios.
MNU would lead by as many as ten points at 22-12. The Pioneers would use to early runs to take set number one 25-17.
In the second set the 'Cats would get on the board first with a kill by Peck off the set from Rios. MNU would then go score three straight points to lead 3-1 before
Jaddy Duarte (Brazillia, Brazil)) would get a kill off the set from
Cassie Davis (Colorado Springs, Colo.).
Peru State would tie the game at three after a kill by
Dawson Sharman (Sidney) on the assist from Davis. MNU would take the lead right back to lead 4-3 but would be soon tied up at four after an attacking error on the Pioneers.
Set two would be tight the rest of the way being tied at 14, 15, 16, 18, 21, and 22 before the set would eventually go in favor of the Bobcats with a kill at set point coming from Sharman off the set from Rios.
The Pioneers would score first in the third set of the game but the 'Cats would tie the game at 1-1 after a kill from Duarte off the set from Rios. MNU would come right back with a 5-0 run to lead 6-1 before a kill by Jamie Copenharve
(Omaha) off the set from Davis ended the run. MidAmerica Nazarene would still lead 6-2.
Peru State would cut the lead to two at 5-7 before MNU would go on another 5-0 run to lead 13-5.
The Bobcats would fight back and tie the game up at 16. The rest of the game went back and forth and eventually the Pioneers would find a way to win the third set 25-23 to take a 2-1 lead in this best of five series.
The fourth set would start with two straight points by MidAmerica before a service error would give the 'Cats the serve. MNU would lead 2-1 at this point. After a kill by the Pioneers the Bobcats would score four straight points to lead 5-3. The points would come from a kill by Duarte off the assist from Davis, a miscue by the Pioneers, and back-to-back kills by Swadogo both assists coming from Davis.
The lead would change hands at 9-8 and then the Bobcats would see the lead once again at 13-12. The rest of the game went back and forth unit MNU went on a 7-1 run to end the game and win the set 25-18.

Rios would lead the team in service aces with two. Cheyenn Birkle
(Holden, Mo.) and
Alyssa Bock (Plattsmouth) each added one service ace.
Duarte led the team with 13 kills while Swadogo was second on the team in kills with nine.
Rios added team high 23 assists while Davis would contribute 17 assists.
Birkle would have team high 26 digs while
Mattie Nichols (Auburn) would add 11 digs. Rios and Bock each would have eight digs each.
Duarte led the team with four block assists while Peck was second on the team in block assists with three.
