Bobcat Softball Drops Three on Friends Second Day

(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State softball team dropped all three of the games Saturday in the Friends Invitational in Wichita, Kan.
 
In the first game Saturday, the host Friends team topped the Bobcats 11-3 in six innings to improve to 5-12 on the year. In the second game, York beat Peru State 5-2 to improve to 5-10. In the final game on Saturday, Ottawa (Kan.) topped the Bobcats 9-3 and improved to 10-9 on the season.
 
Peru State fell to 1-8 overall.

Peru State took the early lead by scoring in the first inning. Takia Walker (Enterprise, Ala.) singled back to the pitcher's mound, but was forced out at second on a fielder's choice which put Payton Beckmann (Syracuse) at first. After a second out, Beckmann stole second. Morgan Wilke (Bakersfield, Calif.) followed with a double to center to drive in Beckmann to put the 'Cats up 1-0 at that point.
 
It was in the bottom of the second when the Falcons took the lead for good as they plated five runs.

The Bobcats would cut into the lead in the top of the third. After an out, Beckmann was hit by a pitch. Kacie Salazar (Bakersfield, Calif.) doubled to third with Beckmann scoring on the play. Wilke singled to short to drive in Salazar to make the score 5-3.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Friends added an insurance run putting the score at 6-3. Then, in the bottom of the sixth, the Falcons plated five runs to make the score 11-3 to win by the mercy rule.
 
Friends scored their 11 runs on 12 hits and committed two errors. The Bobcats scored their three runs on seven hits and also had two miscues. 
 
Wilke went three for three to lead the team and added two RBI. Salazar had the other RBI.
 
Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) pitched the entire game and suffered the loss. Farrell tossed 5.2 innings allowing 12 hits, 11 earned runs, and struck out four.

The Panthers got on the board first with a run in the top of the first.
 
In the bottom of the second, Peru State was able to tie the game. Carlye Rothschild (Eros, La.) singled and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Madison Rider (Longville, La.). Beckmann got an infield single to move Rothschild to third. Farrell singled to left to drive in Rothschild to tie the score.

York regained the lead in the top of the third as they plated two runs to lead 3-1.
 
It was not until the bottom of the fifth before there was any more scoring. After an out, Wilke tripled to right and came home when Rothschild doubled to left. Unfortunately, the 'Cats could not put any more runs on the board as they trailed 3-2 at that point.
 
The Panthers would score two more runs in the top of the seventh for the final game score of 5-2.
 
York scored their five runs on eight hits and had one error. The 'Cats scored their two runs on nine hits and also had one miscue. The Bobcats stranded nine runners in the game.
 
Walker, Rothschild, and Farrell each had two hits in the contest. Rothschild and Farrell each had one RBI.
 
Alana Krieser (Lincoln) threw a complete game and suffered the loss. Krieser gave up eight hits, five runs – four earned, and struck out three.

After Ottawa scored two in the bottom of the first, the Bobcats took the lead in the top of the second.

Rider singled to center to start the top of the second. Beckmann laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Rider to second. Emily Deaton (Williamson, W.V.) singled to shallow right-center with Rider stopping at third. Alena Montoya (Lakewood, Colo.) reached on a fielder's choice with Rider tagged out and Deaton moving to second. Walker singled to left to score Deaton. Farrell doubled to deep left to drive in the two base runners. At that point, Peru State led 3-2.
 
The Braves would score five in the bottom of the third and took the lead for good. Ottawa would add two more in the bottom of the fourth for the final 9-3 score.
 
Ottawa scored their nine runs on 12 hits and did not commit any errors. Peru State scored their three runs on eight hits and committed two errors.
 
Walker and Farrell each had two hits to lead the Bobcats. Farrell was credited with two RBI while Walker had the other run batted in.
 
Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) started the game and was tagged for the loss. Leach tossed 3.1 innings and allowed 11 hits, nine runs – eight earned, and struck out one. Brittney Teeman (Raytown, Mo.) threw 2.2 innings and allowed just one hit.

The Bobcats will be back in Kansas on Tuesday when they face Southwestern in Winfield with a double header beginning at 3 p.m. The Moundbuilders are 5-9 on the season.
 
Peru State will then have three straight home dates. On Friday the 13th, the 'Cats will host Briar Cliff in a double header beginning at 2 p.m. The Chargers are presently 10-5 on the year.
 
On Saturday, March 14, the Bobcats will host another Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) team when Northwestern (Iowa) visits for a double header beginning at 1 p.m. The Red Raiders are 10-4 on the year.
 
Then, on Monday, March 16, Peru State will host another GPAC team when the College of St. Mary visits for a 1 p.m. double header. The Flames have started the season with a 4-9 mark.
