Grand View WBB Tops Peru State

(Peru, Neb.) – A balanced Grand View (Iowa) scoring attack led the Vikings to an 82-53 win on the Peru State women's basketball court Tuesday night.

Peru State fell to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the Heart North.

First Quarter Action

The first quarter was tight throughout with the Bobcats taking the early lead on a trey by Dayna Dewitt (Mansfield, Calif.) off an assist from Maddy Duncan (Hamburg, Iowa). The Vikings would tie it up with an old-fashioned three-point play before Libby Baumert (Plattsmouth) hit a three off an assist from Dewitt to make it 6-3 with 7:35 left in the quarter.
Mackenzie Shupe
Mackenzie Shupe led all scorers as she
had 18 points. Shupe also was the game's
leading rebounder as she grabbed
ten rebounds.

The Vikings would score six straight to go up 9-6 before Mackenzie Shupe (Lenexa, Kan.) was fouled on a three-point attempt. Shupe would hit all three free throws to tie the game again at 9 with 3:21 left in the first ten minutes.

About a minute later, Shupe would hit a bucket in the paint to give the 'Cats what would be their last lead of the game at 11-9. The Vikings would score the last five points of the quarter to lead 14-11.

Second Quarter Action

Grand View would continue their scoring run and put up six points to start the second ten minutes and led 21-11 at the 8:13 mark.

Samantha Stewart (Mount Ayr, Iowa) would hit one of two free throws to stop the run. Duncan then hit a trey off an assist from Ellie Bream (Waverly) to pull the Bobcats within six at 21-15.

That would be as close as the 'Cats would be in the quarter as Grand View would lead 37-26 at halftime.

Third Quarter Action

Shupe would grab an offensive rebound and feed it to Duncan who put in the hoop to start the second half scoring.

Later, McKenzie Witt would make a pair of free throws to cut the score to 39-32 with eight minutes on the third period clock. The seven-point deficit was as close as Peru State would come as the Vikings would outscore the 'Cats 19-6 the rest of the stanza to lead 58-38.

Fourth Quarter Action

A Dewitt bucket from Witt started the scoring in the last ten minutes. Grand View would put up 24 points in the quarter while the Bobcats finished with 15 in the final quarter.
