(Peru, Neb.) – In the meeting of a pair of 'Cats teams, the Culver-Stockton (C-SC) volleyball squad came out victorious over the visiting Peru State Bobcats Friday night in Canton, Mo.
The Wildcats won the match 25-20, 25-22, 16-25, 25-22 to improve to 2-8 on the season and more importantly to 2-5 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division.
Peru State fell to 1-9 on the year and 0-7 in the Heart North.
First Set Action
Peru State scored the first point of the contest on an error by the Wildcats. After C-SC tied it up
Sidney Peck (Manitoba, Canada) put down a kill off an assist from
Hannia Rios (Toa Baja, P.R). to give the Bobcats back the lead. The set was tight throughout; however, Culver-Stockton would build a lead only to see the Bobcats fight back. However, Peru State could never regain the lead in the set.

Second Set Action
A kill by
Jaddy Duarte (Brasilia, Brazil) from Rios started Peru State off with the first point of the second set. In this set, the Wildcats would jump to a 13-5 advantage before the Bobcats eventually come back to tie it late at 18-18 on a Peck kill off a
Hannah Burianek (Lincoln) assist. A block by
Pyper Roseberry (Papillion) would follow and then Roseberry would slam a kill from Burianek to put the Bobcats up 20-18. Back-to-back errors by C-SC put Peru State just three points away from taking the set, but the Wildcats would reel off seven straight points to take the second set victory.
Third Set Action
The Wildcats would jump to a 3-0 lead before having a service error.
Mattie Nichols (Auburn) would get two service aces in a row to tie it before C-SC had two errors in a row to make it 5-3 Peru State. Nichols would serve up another ace. The Bobcats would never trail in the set as they would go on to force a fourth set.
Fourth Set Action
It looked like Peru State would force a deciding set the way the fourth set started as the Bobcats jumped to a 6-0 lead which included a service ace from Nichols and kills by
Jaime Copenharve (Omaha) and
Tyra Mollhoff (Lincoln) off assists from Rios. Peru State would still lead by six at 16-10 only to see Culver-Stockton tie it up at 19-19. The Wildcats would score the next two points and the Bobcats could never regain the lead as they lost their seventh straight conference match.

Neither team hit the ball well as they both finished under .100 in hitting percentage. The Wildcats finished the game with a .090 percentage, slightly better than Peru State which was at .071.

finished with 14 assists
and one service ace
Both teams served the ball well as Peru State finished with 14 service aces while the Wildcats had ten.
C-SC finished with 83 digs and four team blocks. The Bobcats had 75 digs and six team blocks.

Peck led the Bobcats with ten kills while Duarte added seven. Copenharve contributed five kills
Rios and Burianek each had 14 assists in the contest.
Nichols fired up eight service aces while Arianna Waschowski
(Bellevue) and
Alyssa Bock (Plattsmouth) each had two aces while
Cheyenne Birkle (Holden, Mo.) and Burianek each finished with one. Nichols' eight service aces are the most in a single game in the Heart this season.
Nichols also led the team with 16 digs while Birkle added 15. Waschowski finished with 13 while Rios was one shy of double-digit digs.
Roseberry had two solo blocks and two block assists while Mollhoff had one solo and one block assist. Copenharve, Duarte, and
Ofaloto Moungaafi (West Valley City, Utah) each had one block assist.
Junior Varsity Action
Peru State took the junior varsity contest 2-0.

Upcoming Contests
Peru State is in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday to take on Grand View at 3:30 p.m. with a junior varsity contest preceding at 1 p.m. The Vikings are 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Heart North.
The Bobcats have a busy week to follow as they will have contests on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Tuesday's opponent will be William Penn (Iowa) with a junior varsity game at 5 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m. The Statesmen are 11-3 overall and are 6-2 in the Heart.
A non-conference foe will be in the Al Wheeler Activity Center on Thursday night at the same times. Morningside (Iowa) will visit Peru that evening. The Mustangs are 7-7 overall.
Then, the home make-up contest with Culver-Stockton will be held on Friday at noon. It will be Senior Day with three Bobcat seniors recognized prior to the game.
