(Peru, Neb.) – The 2019 season for the Peru State softball team finished its season with a split at home with the visiting Benedictine (Kan.) Ravens on Friday, April 26.

Peru State took the opening game 4-3 while Benedictine took the second game 7-1.

The Bobcats finished their season 8-38 overall and 7-29 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart). Benedictine improved to 24-24 overall and 16-16 in conference action.

Peru State's regular season ended on Friday as the 'Cats will not qualify for the postseason tournament.

First Game Action

The Ravens scored first by plating one in the top of the first.

In the bottom of the second, after two outs,
Alyiah Franco (Syracuse, Utah) singled to right-center. Franco went to second on a stolen base.
Regan Kirby (Gretna) reached on a walk.
Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) reached on an error which allowed Franco to score and tie the game.

Peru State would add a couple of runs in the bottom of the third. After an out,
Jordynn Jimenez (Delano Beach, Calif.) reached on a walk.
Payton Beckmann (Syracuse) doubled to deep left-center to drive in Jimenez.
Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) doubled deep own the right field line to score Beckmann to make the game 3-1 at that point.

Benedictine scored two in the top of the fifth to tie the score at 3-3.

The 'Cats would score the winning run in the bottom of sixth. Franco singled to shallow left to start the inning. Kirby laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Franco over. Ritchie singled to shallow left to drive in Franco which would prove to be the winning run.

Peru State scored its four runs on seven hits and did not commit any errors. The Ravens scored their three runs on 11 hits and had one error.

Farrell, Franco, and Ritchie each had two hits to lead the team. Ritchie led the team with two RBI while Beckmann and Farrell each had one RBI.

Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) tossed a complete game for the win. Moya allowed 11 hits, three earned runs, and struck out one.

Second Game Action

The second game was pretty much all Benedictine. The Ravens scored one in the first, three in the second, and one each in the bottom of the third, fourth, and fifth for a 7-0 lead.

The Bobcats would score their lone run in the bottom of the seventh. Beckmann doubled to deep center and came home when Jimenez doubled to deep left-center.

Benedictine scored their seven runs on 11 hits and did not have any errors. The 'Cats scored their only run on four hits and committed two errors.

Walker, Jimenez, Hazen, and Beckman each had one hit with Jimenez being credited with the RBI.

Ritchie threw a complete game and was tagged for the loss. She allowed 11 hits, seven runs – five earned, and struck out three.
