Mount Mercy Softball Sweeps Peru State

(Peru, Neb.) – The visiting Mount Mercy (Iowa) Mustangs visited the Centennial Complex Field on Thursday and swept the Peru State softball team.
 
The Mustangs took the first game 7-0 and then won the second game 7-1. With the wins, Mount Mercy improved to 28-18 overall and 19-13 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart). Peru State fell to 7-37 on the year and 6-28 in conference play.
 
First Game Action
 
It was a pretty close game throughout until the top of the seventh inning. The Mustangs scored one in the top of the first and then added two more in the top of the fourth to make it 3-0. It was not until the top of the seventh when Mount Mercy broke it open with four runs.
 
The Mustangs scored their seven runs on ten hits and committed one error. Peru State had just three hits and committed two errors.
 
Takia Walker (Enterprise, Ala.), Jordyn Jimenez (Delano Beach, Calif.) and Alyiah Franco (Syracuse, Utah) were the only Bobcats to get a hit with Franco's going for a double.
 
Alana Krieser (Lincoln) started the game for the Bobcats and was tagged for the loss. Krieser threw four innings and allowed three hits, three runs – one earned, and struck out two. Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) tossed the final three innings. Moya allowed seven hits, four earned runs, and struck out one.

Second Game Action
 
After a couple of scoreless innings, Mount Mercy scored two in the third, added three more in the fourth, and one more in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, the 'Cats finally scored a run in the series. Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) reached on a walk and went to third when Shelbi Audsley (Prescott Valley, Ariz.) singled to right-center. After a pitching change, Walker reached on a fielder's choice which drove in Ritchie.
 
Mount Mercy scored their seven runs on 15 hits and did not have any errors. Peru State scored their lone run on just three hits and had two errors.
 
Walker, Franco, and Audsley each had one hit with Franco picking up her second double of the game. Walker was credited with the lone RBI.
 
Ritchie was on the mound and suffered the complete-game loss. She allowed 15 hits, seven runs – three earned, and struck out three.
