Viking Softball Sweeps Peru State

(Peru, Neb.) – The 24th-ranked Grand View softball team were not kind hosts on Thursday as they swept Peru State 9-0 and 8-0 – both in five innings – in Des Moines.
 
The Vikings improved to 25-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) and 35-6 overall. The 'Cats fell to 6-32 on the season and are 5-23 in conference play.
 
First Game Action
 
Grand View scored two runs in each of the first two innings and added five in the bottom of the third for the 9-0 win.
 
The Vikings scored those nine runs off of eight hits while holding the Bobcats to one hit. Peru State committed four errors.
 
Jordynn Jimenez (Delano Beach, Calif.) had the lone hit for the 'Cats which was a double.
 
Alana Krieser (Lincoln) suffered the loss while tossing a complete game. Krieser threw four innings allowing eight hits, nine runs – eight earned, and struck out one.

Second Game Action
 
The second game was initially tighter as Grand View did not score until the bottom of the third when they plated three runs. They added three more in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the bottom of the fifth.
 
Grand View scored their eight runs off of ten hits and had two errors. The Bobcats had five hits in the second game and did not commit any errors.
 
Payton Beckmann (Syracuse) led the team going two of three – one of which was a double.
 
Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) was on the mound and was tagged for the loss. Ritchie threw 4.2 innings and gave up ten hits, eight runs – seven earned, and struck out one.

Upcoming Contests
 
The Bobcats will remain in Iowa for two more days of double header play. On Friday, the 'Cats will be facing Clarke in Dubuque at 1 p.m. The Pride are currently 7-22 overall and 5-19 in the Heart North – just one game ahead of Peru State.
 
On Saturday, the Bobcats will be in Cedar Rapids to face Mount Mercy. The Mustangs are 20-18 on the year and are even at 13-13 in conference play as they have lost seven in a row.
