Raven Baseball Sweeps Peru State by Identical 10-4 Scores

(Peru, Neb.) – The home-standing Benedictine Ravens won a double header over Peru State on Thursday in Atchison, Kan., by identical 10-4 margins.
 
With the double header sweep, Benedictine improved to 22-8 on the year and are now 14-7 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) South Division. Peru State fell to 14-20 and are 11-10 in the Heart North.
 
First Game Action
 
Peru State scored first in the game in the top of the second inning. After an out, Sterling Rupp (Grand Island) doubled deep down the right field line. On a balk, Rupp moved to third. Edwin Muniz (Dorado, P.R.) reached on a walk with Austin Greenfield (Omaha) entering to run for him. Greenfield would then steal second. Rupp would score on a ground out by Chaz Dunn (Falls City) to make it 1-0.
 
The Ravens would score three runs in the bottom of the second and would not relinquish the lead after that point. Benedictine would add four more runs in the bottom of the third to go up 7-1.
 
In the top of the fourth, the 'Cats would cut into the lead. Rupp led off again with a double and Muniz reached after being hit by a pitch. Greenfield would enter again to run for Muniz. On a ground out, the base runners would advance. Abner Vincenty (Cabo Rojo, P.R.) singled to center to score Rupp with Greenfield stopping at third. Vincenty would go to second with a stolen base. Joshua Banuelos (Moreno Valley, Calif.) would reach on a fielder's choice which scored Greenfield to make it 7-3.
 
In the top of the fifth, Jesus Tavarez (Santo Domingo, D.R.) started with a double to deep right-center. Darren Hasch (Destin, Fla.) would single to right-center to drive in Tavarez for what would be the final run of the contest for Peru State.
 
Benedictine would add one in the bottom of the fifth and then two more in the bottom of the seventh for the final 10-4 score.
 
The Ravens scored their ten runs on six hits and did not commit any errors. The 'Cats scored their four runs on seven hits and had two miscues.
 
Tavarez and Rupp each had two hits to lead Peru State. Hasch, Dunn, Vincenty, and Banuelos were each credited with an RBI.
 
Joshua Santiago (Carolina, P.R.) threw the first two innings and was tagged for the loss. Santiago allowed two hits and three earned runs. Alfredo Barroso (Hialeah, Fla.) threw three innings. Barroso gave up three hits, five runs – three earned, and struck out one. Jose Mendez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) threw the final inning. Mendez allowed one hit, two earned runs, and struck out one.

Second Game Action
 
After an out in the top of the first inning, Tavarez reached on a wild throw. Hasch singled to shallow right-center which was long enough for Tavarez to score to make it 1-0.
 
In the top of the second, after an out, Jose Chacin (Machiques, Venezuela) singled to right-center with Greenfield entering to run for Chacin. Banuelos would single deep down the right field line with Greenfield scoring to make it 2-0.
 
The Ravens would score four in the bottom of the third to go up 4-2. In the top of the fourth, after an out, Dunn singled up the middle. On a ground out, Dunn went to second and then stole third. Luis Landaeta (Porlamar, Venezuela) followed with a single to shallow center to drive in Dunn to make it 4-3.
 
Benedictine would add a run in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 5-3. In the bottom of the sixth, the Ravens plated five runs to go up 10-3.
 
In the top of the seventh, Landaeta singled to right center. Greenfield entered to pinch hit for Tavarez and singled to center with Landaeta moving to second. Hasch reached on a walk to load the bases. Jaxson Balm (Auburn) entered to run for Hasch. Cendejas reached on a fielder's choice to score Landaeta for Peru State's final run. The 'Cats would leave the bases loaded.
 
The Ravens scored their ten runs on 12 hits and committed two errors. Peru State scored their four runs on nine hits and did not have any errors.
 
Landaeta and Dunn each had two hits to lead the Bobcats. Landaeta, Hasch, Cendejas, and Banuelos each had one RBI.
 
Reiner Mendez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) threw the first 4.2 innings for the Bobcats and was tagged for the loss. Mendez allowed 8 hits, 5 earned runs, and struck out 3. Zach Pinkerton (Beatrice) threw one out. Pinkerton allowed 2 hits and 4 earned runs. Ricky Broxson (Panama City, Fla.) threw the final inning. Broxson gave up 2 hits, 1 earned run, and struck out 1.

Upcoming Contests
 
Peru State will be hosting Baker (Kan.) on Saturday for a double header beginning at 1 p.m. The Wildcats are 18-21 on the year and are 8-11 in the Heart South. Baker will be playing Graceland on Friday before heading to the Centennial Complex Field.
 
The Bobcats will play a non-conference double header on Monday when they travel to Crete to face Doane beginning at 1 p.m. The Tigers are 13-23 on the year,
