(Peru, Neb.) – The Grand View Viking softball team swept a softball double header in two hard-fought battles with the home-standing Peru State Bobcats.

The Vikings, who were receiving votes in the most recent coaches' Top 25 poll, took the first game 2-0 and then captured the second game 6-2.

With the win, Grand View improves to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart). Peru State falls to 2-14 on the year and 1-7 in conference play.

Game One Action

It was pretty much a pitchers' duel in the first game. It was scoreless through six innings and then the Vikings scored two runs in the top of the seventh to gain the win.

Grand View scored their two runs on six hits and committed one error. Peru State was held to one hit and did not have any errors.
Â
Takia Walker (Enterprise, Ala.) had the lone hit for the Bobcats.
Â
Alana Krieser (Lincoln) pitched a complete game and suffered the loss. Krieser allowed six hits, two earned runs, and struck out three.

The second game was similar to the first in terms of the pitchers' duel again with the exception of two half innings.

Peru State scored its two runs in the bottom of the second.
Ally Hazen (North Platte) was hit by a pitch to start the half-inning.
Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) stepped to the plate and hit a home run on the first pitch she saw over the left field fence to put the 'Cats up 2-0.

In the top of the fifth, Grand View struck for six runs to go up 6-2. The Bobcats would end up stranding two base runners in the bottom of the fifth and then left the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth without scoring.

The Vikings scored their six runs on nine hits and committed one error. Peru State scored their two runs on nine hits and had three miscues.

Walker went four for four to lead Peru State.
Payton Beckmann (Syracuse) also finished with a multi-hit game as she had two hits. Ritchie was credited with the team's only RBIs.

Ritchie was on the mound for Peru State to start and finish the game. She allowed six hits, two earned runs, and struck out a season-high six Vikings.
Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) came in for Ritchie in the top of the fifth after Ritchie had given up two dingers. Moya threw just that inning and allowed three hits and four runs – all unearned. She was tagged for the loss.

Peru State will be right back in action on Wednesday as they host another conference double header with Clarke (Iowa) beginning at noon. The Pride are presently 2-7 on the season and are winless with four losses in Heart action.

The Bobcats, weather permitting, will also host Evangel (Mo.) Friday in a Heart double header scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The Crusaders are 10-10 overall and are 1-7 in the conference.
