OPSU Aggies Take Two from Peru State Baseball

(Peru, Neb.) – The home-standing Oklahoma Panhandle State (OPSU) Aggies swept a pair of games from the Peru State baseball team on Friday in 36 degree weather which was accompanied by a 20 mile per hour wind.
 
The Aggies took game one 6-4 and then swept the double header by winning game two 14-6.
 
OPSU improved to 8-7 on the season while the 'Cats fell to 2-8.
 
Game One Action
 
Neither team scored in the first inning. The Aggies would strike first and scored three in the bottom of the second and two more in the bottom of the third to take a 5-0 lead.
 
In the top of the fourth, Abner Vincenty (Cabo Rojo, P.R.) singled. After an out, Vincenty stole second. On a ground out, Vincenty moved to third. Darren Hasch (Destin, Fla.) was hit by a pitch. Joshua Banuelos (Moreno Valley, Calif.) reached on a fielder's choice with Hasch advancing to second on an error. Vincenty would score on the play. Julian Fernandez (Middle Village, N.Y.) tripled to right center to drive in Hasch and Banuelos to make the score 5-3.
 
Chaz Dunn (Falls City) would reach on an error. After an out, Vincenty tripled to right center to score Dunn for what would be the final score for the 'Cats.
 
OPSU would score one insurance run in the bottom of the sixth for the final 6-4 score.
 
The Aggies scored their six runs on seven hits and had three errors. Peru State scored their four runs on six hits and committed one error.
 
Vincenty and Adam Cendejas (Chino Hills, Calif.) each had two hits to lead Peru State. Fernandez was credited with two RBI while Vincenty had one.
 
Alberto Rosario (Carolina, Puerto Rico) started the game for the 'Cats and was tagged for the loss. Rosario pitched 3.1 innings and allowed 4 hits, 5 runs – 4 earned, and struck out 2. Zack Pinkerton (Beatrice) threw the final 2.2 innings. Pinkerton allowed 3 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 5.

Game Two Action
 
The Aggies jumped all over the Bobcats to begin the game by scoring 13 runs before Peru State could get on the board.
 
OPSU scored three in the first, three in the second, four in the third, and three in the fifth to lead 13-0 after five full innings.
 
The Bobcats would finally get on the board in the top of the sixth. After an out, Edwin Muniz (Dorado, P. R.) walked. Luis Landaeta (Porlamar, Venezuela) entered to run for Muniz and would go to second and then third on back-to-back wild pitches. Fernandez walked while Landaeta would score on a wild pitch to make the score 13-1.
 
Oklahoma Panhandle State would tack on an additional run in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead back to 13.
 
Peru State would plate several runs in the top of the seventh, but it would not be enough. After an out, Jesus Tavarez (Santa Domingo, D.R.) walked with Austin Greenfield (Omaha) entering to run for Tavarez. Cendejas singled to center field with Greenfield moving to third. Hasch would walk to load the bases. Muniz was hit by a pitch to drive in Greenfield for the first run of the inning. Fernandez singled to left field with Cendejas scoring. On a ground out by Eddy Pimental (San Juan, P.R.), Hasch scored. Banuelos doubled down the right field line, Fernandez and Muniz scored the final runs of the game for the Bobcats.
 
OPSU scored their 14 runs on 13 hits and did not commit any errors. Peru State scored their six runs on seven hits and committed four miscues.
 
Tavarez and Cendejas each had two hits to lead the 'Cats. Banuelos led the team with two RBI while Muniz, Fernandez, and Pimental each had one RBI.
 
Ben Carr (Omaha) started the game and was tagged for the loss. Carr allowed nine hits, ten runs – five earned, and struck out two. Jose Mendez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) threw the final two innings. Mendez allowed four hits, four runs – one earned, and struck out one.

The games between the teams scheduled for Saturday were rained out, but have been rescheduled to be played on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
