(Peru, Neb.) – When a team serves up 13 aces against you, generally the results are not very good. That was the case Tuesday night as the visiting Bellevue Bruins had 13 service aces compared to zero for Peru State.
The final results had the 14
th-ranked Bruins winning 25-16, 25-11, 25-10. Bellevue improved to 15-4 on the season while the 'Cats fell to 5-17.
First Set Action
Bellevue scored the first five points of the set before
Claire Cudney (Marysville, Kan.) put down a kill off an assist from Cassidy Davis
(Colorado Springs, Colo.). The Bruins would lead the rest of the way with the Bobcats getting as close as three at 17-14 after
Mallory Matthies (Omaha) and
Tyra Mollhoff (Lincoln) combined for a block.

Second Set Action
After a 3-0 start by Bellevue, Peru State called a time out. Again, Cudney and Davis would hook up for a point following the timeout. The closest the 'Cats would be in the set would be at 5-3 after Cudney put down another kill, this time off an assist from
Darlene Quinonez Holguin (Anthony, N.M.).
Third Set Action
The Bruins would jump out to a 6-0 lead in the third set only to stymie themselves with a service ace for Peru State's first point. Again, it was all Bellevue as the closest the Bobcats would be later in the set was at 10-4 when
Savanna Davis (Anchorage, Alaska) slammed a kill off an assist from Quinonez Holguin.

Team Statistics
Bellevue hit an outstanding .310 in the match while holding the Bobcats to just .049. The 13 service aces were huge in the Bruins' win as were the blocks as Bellevue had eight total blocks compared to just two for Peru State. Both teams finished with 35 digs.
Peru Individual Statistics
Cudney was the only Bobcat to have more than five kills as she finished with seven. Matthies and Mollhoff each finished with four.
Quinonez Holguin had ten assists while Davis finished with seven.
Cudney led the team with ten digs while Davis and
Sarah Brown (Seward) each finished with four.
Mollhoff was credited with two block assists while Cudney and Matthies each had one block assist.
Upcoming Contests
Peru State will face another ranked opponent at home Friday night. The Grand View (Iowa) Vikings were ranked seventh, but most likely will drop some in the poll which comes out later on Oct. 2. The Vikings are 14-7 overall and more importantly, are 8-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart).
The Bobcats will get a chance to avenge an earlier Heart loss of Friday when they travel to Lamoni, Iowa, to face Graceland at 1 p.m. The Yellowjackets are 6-16 on the season and are 2-6 in Heart play. Following their match with Graceland, Peru State will face Haskell Indian Nations at 3 p.m. The Fighting Indians are 6-11 on the year.
