(Peru, Neb.) – The offense never got going for the Peru State baseball team as they dropped a pair of games on Thursday in Des Moines to the Grand View Vikings.

Grand View took the first game 3-1 and then came from behind to take the second game 4-2. With the wins, the Vikings improved to 14-15 on the year and are now 7-7 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division. Peru State fell to 19-10 overall and are now 11-7 in the Heart North.

The Vikings scored two in the bottom of the first inning which ended proving to be enough for the win.
Eric Ocasio

Eric Ocasio (San Juan, Puerto Rico) hit a home run in the top of the second inning for the lone Bobcat run.

Grand View would add a run in the bottom of the fifth for the final 3-1 score.

The Vikings scored their three runs on five hits and did not commit any errors. Peru State scored their lone run on three hits and committed one error.

Ocasio,
Bryan Ventura Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico), and
Chaz Dunn (Falls City) each had one hit in the game with Ocasio earning the one RBI.

Joshua Santiago (Carolina, Puerto Rico) threw the first five innings and was tagged for the loss. Santiago allowed four hits, three runs – two earned, and struck out three.
Cragin Missak (Bellevue) threw one inning of relief. Missak allowed one hit and struck out one.

Peru State had the early lead in the second game.
Jordan Kelly (Omaha) singled to center to start the second game and went to second when
Joshua Banuelos (Moreno Valley, Calif.) laid down a sacrifice bunt. Kelly would score on a single by
Gianfranco Garlobo (Carolina, Puerto Rico). That 1-0 lead would stand for several innings.

In the top of the fourth, Ventura Castro reached on a walk and would go to third when Ocasio doubled to left. After an out, Ventura Castro would score on a ground out by Dunn to make it 2-0.

That 2-0 advantage held until the Vikings scored four on a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to gain the win.

Grand View scored their four runs on five hits and committed one error. Peru State scored their two runs on three hits and did not commit any errors.

Kelly, Garlobo, and Ocasio each had one hit with Garlobo and Dunn each being credited with one RBI.

Eddy Tavarez Cabrera started on the mound and threw five innings for Peru State. Tavarez Cabrera allowed just two hits and struck out seven.
Tyler Wheelock (Bellevue) came in to relieve Tavarez Cabrera and threw 1.1 innings and was tagged with the loss. Wheelock allowed three this, four earned runs and struck out one.

The same two teams will meet again on Saturday as they will avoid the frigid temperatures on Friday.

Peru State will be back at home on Tuesday when they host MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) in a Heart cross-divisional double header which will begin at 1 p.m. The Pioneers are 17-11 overall and are 12-6 in the Heart South.

The next day the Bobcats will head to Orange City, Iowa, to face Northwestern in a non-conference double header scheduled for 4 p.m. The Red Raiders are 13-14 on the year.
