(Peru, Neb.) – The Avila Eagles softball team were not kind hosts on Sunday as they swept the visiting Peru State Bobcats.
The Eagles took the first game 6-0 and then won the second game 6-2.

With the pair of wins, Avila improved to 37-22 overall and finished 23-15 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) South Division. The 'Cats fell to 14-36 on the season and 9-27 in the Heart North.

Avila scored one in the bottom of the first, two in the bottom of the third and fourth, and one more in the bottom of the sixth.

The Eagles held Peru State without a hit until the sixth inning. The 'Cats added one more hit in the top of the seventh.

Avila scored their six runs on eight hits and did not commit any errors. The Bobcats had two hits and committed three errors.

Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) and
Rachel Carlos (Kaneohe, Hawaii) each had one hit with Carlos having a double.

Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) tossed the first game and suffered the loss. Ritchie allowed eight hits, six runs – four earned, and struck out three.

The Bobcats scored first in the second game as they got both of their runs in the top of the first inning. Farrell singled up the middle and went to second on a ground out.
Megan Hartman (Lincoln) singled to shallow left-center with Farrell stopping at third. Carlos singled up the middle with Farrell scoring and Hartman moving to second. On a passed ball, Hartman moved to third. On a

Avila would take the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third inning and then added two in the bottom of the fourth to go up 6-2 which was the eventual final score.

The 'Cats had the bases loaded in the top of the sixth with no outs, but could not score. They left two on base in the top of the seventh as well.

The Eagles scored their six runs on seven hits and committed three errors. Peru State scored their two runs on eight hits and had four miscues.

Carlos led the team going two for three and had one RBI. Garcia was credited with the other RBI.

Hartman tossed a complete game and was tagged for the loss. She allowed seven hits, six runs – two earned, and struck out three.

Peru State was to have played William Penn on Monday, but since both teams were mathematically eliminated from the conference championship, the games were cancelled.
