Bobcat Baseball Takes Series at Graceland

(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State baseball game won three out of four games in Lamoni, Iowa, this weekend over the Graceland Yellowjackets.
 
The 'Cats took the two games on Friday 6-3 and 7-4 and won the first game on Saturday 11-5 to capture the series. The 'Jackets were able to salvage game four by winning 11-9.
 
With the three wins, the Bobcats improved to 19-8 overall and are 11-5 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division. The Yellowjackets fell to 12-18 on the year and are 5-9 in the Heart North.
 
Friday Game One Action
 
After an out to begin the first inning, Joshua Baneulos (Moreno Valley, Calif.) doubled to deep right. Banuelos would move to third on a ground out and then came home when Bryan Ventura Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) singled to short. This gave the 'Cats a 1-0 lead at that point.

Graceland would take the lead with two in the bottom of the second and added one more in the bottom of the third to lead 3-1.
 
In the top of the fifth, the Bobcats would get back on the board. Zach Nolin (Bonifay, Fla.) singled thru the hole at shortstop. Nolin would be forced out as Jordan Kelly (Omaha) reached on a fielder's choice. Banuelos singled to shallow right with Kelly advancing to third. Gianfranco Garlobo (Carolina, Puerto Rico) doubled to deep right-center to drive in both base runners to tie the game. After an out, Garlobo went to third with a stolen base and eventually scored on a wild throw to put Peru State on top 4-3.
 
Peru State would add some insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. Kelly would start the inning with a walk and went to second on a ground out. Garlobo reached on a walk and after a pitching change, Ventura Castro singled to shallow left to drive in Kelley with Garlobo moving to third. On the throw, Garlobo scored to make it 6-3.
 
The Bobcats scored their six runs on seven hits and committed three errors. The 'Jackets scored their three runs on five hits and committed one error.
 
Banuelos and Ventura Castro each had two hits to lead the Bobcats. Garlobo and Ventura Castro each had two RBI.

Alberto Rosario (Carolina, Puerto Rico) earned the win while throwing six innings. Rosario allowed five hits, three earned runs, and struck out ten.

FRIDAY GM 1 GRACELAND BOX SCORE
 
Friday Game Two Stats
 
Due to the fact that Graceland hosted both baseball and softball on Friday and Saturday, the remaining stats will be from the box scores as the play-by-play version is not available.
 
The Bobcats scored one in each of the first two innings and then added five runs in the top of the third to lead 7-0 before Graceland scored two in the bottom of the third. The Yellowjackets would add one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings for the final score of 7-4.
 
Peru State scored their seven runs on nine hits and committed one error. The Yellowjackets scored their four runs on seven hits and committed two errors.
 
Banuelos, Eric Ocasio (San Juan, Puerto Rico), and Chaz Dunn (Falls City) each had two hits in the win. Ocasio and Dunn were each credited with two RBI.

Eddy Tavarez Cabrera (San Cristobel, Dominican Republic) threw six innings and earned the win. Tavarez Cabrera allowed seven hits, four earned runs, and struck out eight. Cragin Missak (Bellevue) earned the save by throwing the final inning. Missak did not allow any hits or runs and struck out one.

Saturday Game One Stats
 
Peru State took the first game on Saturday by the score of 11-5.
 
Each team scored one run in the first inning and then the Bobcats exploded for six runs in the top of the second inning which proved to be enough for the win. Peru State added two runs in the top of the fifth while the 'Jackets scored one in the bottom of the fifth. The 'Cats would score one in each of the sixth and seventh while Graceland plated three in the bottom of the sixth.
 
The Bobcats scored their 11 runs on 16 hits and did not commit any errors. Graceland scored their five runs on eight hits and committed one error.
 
Jordan Kelly (Omaha), Banuelos, and Darren Hasch (Destin, Fla.) each had three hits in the win. Garlobo, Ventura Castro, and Seth Thomason (Crestview, Fla.) each added two hits. Ventura Castro led the team with four RBI while Kelly and Hasch were each credited with two RBI.

Cory Royer (Las Vegas) started on the mound and went six innings for the win. Royer allowed eight hits, five earned runs, and struck out five. Tyler Wheelock (Bellevue) threw the final inning and did not allow any hits or runs.

SATURDAY GM 1 GRACELAND BOX SCORE
 
Saturday Game Two Stats
 
Due to some technical difficulties with Graceland's submission of the stats, only the overall scoring is available.
 
Peru State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first only to see Graceland score four in the bottom of the first. The Yellowjackets would add two more in the bottom of the second to lead 6-3 at that point. The Bobcats would score four runs in the top of the third to go back up 7-6.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Graceland would score four to regain the lead at 10-7. Both teams would score a run in the sixth inning to make it 11-8. The 'Cats would add one run in the top of the seventh, but could not get the game tied as the Yellowjackets won 11-9.

Peru State is to travel to Bellevue on Monday to face the Bruins in one nine-inning contest beginning at 3 p.m. Bellevue is presently 19-15 overall having won their last three games which included one forfeit.
 
On Tuesday, the Bobcats are back in Heart action as MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) is scheduled to visit the confines of the Centennial Complex Field for a double header scheduled to start at 1 p.m. The Pioneers are presently 15-11 on the year and are 10-6 in the Heart South.
 
Thursday will find the 'Cats traveling to Wichita, Kan., to play a non-conference double header with Friends. The Falcons are 24-10 on the year and have won three games in a row.
 
On Friday and Saturday, the Bobcats are to be in Des Moines to take on Grand View in a four-game series with the double headers beginning at 1 p.m. each day. Through April 1, the Vikings are 12-14 on the year and are 5-7 in the Heart North.
