(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State softball team picked up their first Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) win Wednesday. The Bobcats topped Graceland 5-3 in the second game of a double header in Lamoni, Iowa.

The Yellowjackets took the first game 4-0.

After the split, Graceland was 11-6 on the season and 3-5 in the Heart. The 'Cats are now 6-20 overall and 1-11 in conference action.

Graceland scored one run in the bottom of the first, one in the bottom of the third, and added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to win the first game 4-0.

The Yellowjackets scored the four runs on eight hits and had one error. Peru State had two hits and also had one miscue.

Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) and
Shelbi Audsley (Prescott Valley, Ariz.) each had a hit in the first game loss.

Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) was on the mound and suffered the loss. Ritchie allowed eight hits, four earned runs, and struck out one.

After an out in the top of the first inning,
Regan Kirby (Gretna) reached on a walk. Farrell stepped to the plate hit a two-run home run on an 0-0 count to give Peru State a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the third,
Alexis Paulo-Meyers (Waianae, Hawaii) homered to deep right-center on a 2-2 count to make it a 3-0 Bobcat advantage.

Graceland would score a run in the bottom of the fourth and added two runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 3-3.

Peru State would break the tie in the top of the sixth inning.
Rachel Carlos (Kaneohe, Hawaii) reached on a walk and went to second when
Megan Hartman (Lincoln) singled to deep left-center. Both base runners would advance on the throw. After two outs,
Sandy Garcia (Strasburg, Colo.) singled to shot to score Carlos with Hartman advancing to third.
Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) singled down the left field line to drive in Hartman to put the score at 5-3 which would be the final score.

The 'Cats scored their five runs on six hits and did not commit any errors. The 'Jackets scored their three runs on seven hits and also did not commit any errors.

Paulo-Meyers led the team with two hits while Farrell led the team with two RBI.

Hartman threw a complete game tossing seven innings for the win. She allowed seven hits, three earned runs, and struck out seven.

Peru State is hosting a pair of double headers this Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Evangel (Mo.) Crusaders are the scheduled opponents. Evangel comes into the series with a 7-17 mark and are 3-9 in the Heart South.

On Saturday, the 'Cats are hosting Missouri Valley in a double header scheduled to begin at noon. This is a new game time which was agreed upon to allow the Vikings to get home earlier for Easter. Missouri Valley is presently 8-16 on the year and are 0-12 in the Heart South.

Weather permitting, the Bobcats will host Grand View (Iowa) on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in a double header. The Vikings are 17-5 on the year and are 7-3 in the Heart North.
