(Peru, Neb.) – The Heart of America Athletic Conference's (Heart) league leaders showed the Peru State softball team why they were in that position on Sunday. The Central Methodist (CMU) Eagles run-ruled the visitors 12-0 and 10-2 in Fayette, Mo.

With wins, the Eagles improved to 20-2 overall and are now 10-0 in the Heart South. Peru State fell to 5-19 on the season and are 0-10 in the Heart North.

The Eagles scored one in the bottom of the first and then exploded for eight in the bottom of the second to lead 9-0. They added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to win 12-0.

CMU scored their 12 runs on ten hits and did not have any errors. Peru State had one hit and had five errors in the contest.

Ally Hazen (North Platte) had the lone hit for Peru State.

Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) threw a complete game and suffered the loss. Ritchie allowed ten hits, 12 runs – two earned, and struck out three.

The second game was more competitive, but the outcome was the same.

In the top of the first,
Alexis Paulo-Meyers (Waianae, Hawaii) hit a home run on a 1-1 count to give Peru State their only lead of the day.

In the bottom of the second, the Eagles scored four runs to take the lead they would never relinquish.

After an out in the top of the second inning,
Elizabeth Nelson (Adams) reached on an error and then advanced to second on a passed ball.
Shelbi Audsley (Prescott Valley, Ariz.) reached on another error with Nelson moving to third.
Sandy Garcia (Strasburg, Colo.) singled to drive in Nelson to make it 4-2.

CMU would add one in the bottom of the third, three in the bottom of the fourth, and scored one run in the bottom of the fifth to invoke the mercy rule to win 10-2.

The Eagles scored their ten runs on 16 hits and committed two errors. Peru State scored their two runs on five hits and also had two errors.

Regan Kirby (Gretna) had two hits to lead Peru State. Paulo-Meyers and Garcia were each credited with one RBI.

Megan Hartman (Lincoln) threw a complete game and suffered the loss. Hartman allowed 16 hits, ten runs – nine earned, and struck out four.

Peru State will travel to Lamoni, Iowa, on Wednesday to face Graceland in a double header scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Presently, the Yellowjackets are 10-5 overall, but are only 2-4 in the Heart North. They will be playing a non-conference game on Monday before the 'Cats hit Lamoni on Wednesday.

The Bobcats will be at home for a pair of double headers before Easter. On Friday, Evangel (Mo.) will be the visitors with the first game scheduled to start at 2 p.m. The Crusaders are 7-17 on the year and are 3-9 in the Heart South.

On Saturday, Missouri Valley will be the opponent with the double header scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The Vikings are 8-16 on the year and are 0-12 in the Heart South having lost their last six contests.
