(Peru, Neb.) – The cool conditions did not hinder Mount Mercy Saturday as they swept the Peru State softball team 7-2 and 16-4 in Peru.
With the wins, the Mustangs improved to 12-7 on the season and 4-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division.
The 'Cats fell to 4-12 on the year and 0-4 in the Heart North.

Mount Mercy scored one in the top of the second and four in the top of the third to take a 5-0 lead.

Peru State would score both of its runs in the bottom of the third.
Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) singled to second to start the inning. After two outs,
Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) would hit a home run over the center field fence on a 1-1 count to make it 5-2.
The Mustangs would add a run in the top of the fourth and added another insurance run in the top of the seventh for their 7-2 win.
Mount Mercy scored their seven runs on ten hits and did not have any errors. The 'Cats scored their two runs on five hits and had one error.
Moya went two for three to lead the team hitting-wise with Farrell gaining both RBI.
Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) started on the mound and threw a complete game and the loss. Ritchie allowed ten hits, seven earned runs, and struck out one.

Game Two Action
The Mustangs jumped on the Bobcats early as they scored one in the top of the first and then exploded for seven runs in the top of the second to lead 8-0.

Farrell hit her second home run of the day over the left field fence in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 8-1.
Mount Mercy added four runs in the top of the fourth to go up 12-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, after an out,
Sandy Garcia (Strasburg, Colo.) singled to shallow left.
Shelbi Audsley (Prescott Valley, Ariz.) singled up the middle with Garcia staying at second. Both base runners would get a stolen base. On a wild pitch, Garcia scored to make it 12-2.
In the top of the fifth, the Mustangs added four more runs to lead 16-2 at that point.
Peru State would score some runs in the bottom of the fifth. After an out,
Regan Kirby (Gretna) singled thru the hole at shortstop. After the second out,
Rachel Carlos (Waianae, Hawaii) hit a two-run home run over the center field fence on a 1-1 count to make the final score 16-4. The mercy rule was invoked as the 'Cats could not score enough to extend the game.
Mount Mercy scored their 16 runs on 17 hits and did not have any errors. The Bobcats scored their four runs on seven hits and had two errors.
Kirby was the only Bobcat with two hits. Carlos had two RBI while Farrell was credited with the other RBI.
Megan Hartman (Lincoln) started on the mound and suffered the loss. Hartman threw 3.1 innings and gave up 12 hits, 10 earned runs, and struck out 1. Moya finished the game throwing 1.2 innings. She allowed 5 hits, 6 runs – 4 earned, and struck out 1.

Upcoming Games
Peru State is hosting Clarke (Iowa) on Sunday in another Heart North double header. The Pride came into the game with a 2-10 mark and were 0-2 in the conference.
Weather permitting, the 'Cats are to host another Heart North double header on Tuesday at 2 p.m. as William Penn (Iowa) will be the visitors. The Statesmen are 8-12 on the year and are 2-2 in the Heart North.
On Thursday, the Bobcats will be hosting a non-conference double header with NCAA DIII Nebraska Wesleyan at 2 p.m. The Prairie Wolves are 11-7 on the year.
