Ottawa SB Sweeps Peru State

(Peru, Neb.) – The 19th-ranked Ottawa (Kan.) Braves swept Peru State in Peru Thursday afternoon.
 
The Braves took game one 9-0 in six innings and then Ottawa took game two 11-7 as they came back with five runs in the top of the seventh.
 
Ottawa improved to 16-6 on the year while the 'Cats fell to 4-10.

First Game Action
 
The Braves scored two runs in the top of the second, one in the third, and added six in the top of the sixth to have a 9-0 lead. After shutting out the Bobcats in the bottom of the inning to have the mercy run invoked.
 
Ottawa scored their nine runs on eight hits and had no errors. The Bobcats managed just three hits and had one error.
 
Regan Kirby (Gretna), Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.), and Megan Hartman (Lincoln) each had a hit in the first game.
 
Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) threw five innings and suffered the loss. Ritchie allowed five hits, three earned runs, and struck out one. Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) tossed the final inning. Moya gave up three hits and six runs – three earned.

Second Game Action
 
Ottawa struck first in the second game with two runs in the first, one in the second, and one in the third to lead 4-0 at that point.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Hartman homered over the left field fence on a 0-1 count to make it 4-1.

The Braves added two in the top of the fifth.
 
Peru State came roaring back in the bottom of the fifth to eventually take a 7-6 lead.
 
Shelbi Audsley (Prescott Valley, Ariz.) singed to shallow right and went to second when Kirby bunted and reached first. Farrell singled to shallow left-center to load the bases. After a pitching change, Rachel Carlos (Waianae, Hawaii) singled to third to drive in Audsley for the first run and to keep the bases loaded. Hartman followed with a single and Kirby came home to make it 6-3 at that point.
 
Sandy Garcia (Strasburg, Colo.) walked to drive in Farrell. After another pitching change, Elizabeth Nelson (Adams) doubled to right-center with Carlos and Hartman both scoring. Moya singled to shallow left to score Garcia which put the 'Cats up 7-6.
 
After a scoreless sixth inning, the Braves exploded for five runs of their own in the top of the seventh and went on to win 11-7.
 
Ottawa scored their 11 runs on 18 hits and had one error. The Bobcats scored their seven runs on 15 hits and committed three errors.
 
Kirby, Farrell, and Hartman each had three hits while Nelson and Audsley each finished with two hits in the game. Hartman and Nelson were each credited with two RBI.
 
Hartman was on the mound for the Bobcats and threw the first 6.1 innings. She suffered the loss as she allowed 17 hits, 10 runs – 6 earned, and struck out 2. Ally Hazen (North Platte) threw the final two outs. Hazen allowed 1 hit and 1 earned run.

Upcoming Games
 
The Bobcats will be hosting a pair of Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) double headers on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday Mount Mercy (Iowa) will be the visitors. The Mustangs are currently 10-7 on the season and are 2-2 in the Heart.
 
On Sunday, Clarke (Iowa) will be the guests. The Pride are presently 3-9 on the year and are 0-2 in conference action.
 
The games each day begin at 1 p.m.
