Bobcat Baseball Out-slugs visiting York for Win

(Peru, Neb.) – It was windy. It was smoky for some time. It was cool. It was not a clean-played game. But, there were lots of hits.

Those are just a few things to describe the nine-inning, non-conference baseball game between the visiting York Panthers and the Peru State Bobcats Tuesday afternoon.

The four runs scored by the 'Cats in the bottom of the seventh broke a 10-10 tie and the Bobcats went on to win 15-10.

Peru State improved to 9-4 while York fell to 6-15.

Game Action

The 'Cats struck first in the bottom of the first inning. After an out, Joshua Banuelos (Moreno Valley, Calif.) was hit by a pitch. On a single by Gianfranco Garlobo (Carolina, Puerto Rico), Banuelos went to second. A double steal advanced the base runners. Bryan Ventura Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) singled up the middle to drive in both base runners and the Bobcats led 2-0 at that point.

Nolin advanced on a wild throw to third. After two ground outs, Ventura Castro doubled to deep left to drive in Nolin. Hasch followed with a single to center which drove in Ventura Castro for the second run. After a pitching change, Edwin Muniz (Dorado, Puerto Rico) singled to second with Hasch advancing to third. On a balk, Hasch scored and Muniz advanced to second. On a passed ball, Muniz went to third. Ocasio would single to third to drive in Muniz for the fourth run of the inning. After six complete innings, the 'Cats led 10-5.

York would not quit and came back to tie the game with five runs in the top of the seventh.

The Panthers would switch pitchers to start the bottom of the seventh and it was not a good move. Chaz Dunn (Falls City) singled to left-center and went to second on a sac bunt by Nolin. Banuelos singled to left with Dunn scoring to give Peru State an 11-10 lead. Garlobo walked and Banuelos went to second. Ventura Castro reached on an error to load the bases. Hasch reached on a walk to drive in Banuelos. After another pitching change, Muniz reached on a walk to drive in Garlobo. Ocasio also reached on another walk to drive in Ventura Castro to make it 14-10.
