Hot-Shooting Bobcat MBB Rolls Culver-Stockton

(Peru, Neb.) – When a team shoots nearly 60% in a basketball game, fans expect a win. And that is what the Peru State men's basketball fans received Saturday afternoon as the Bobcats rolled past the visiting Culver-Stockton (CSC) (Mo.) Wildcats.
 
Peru State won 105-56 over the Wildcats which saw all players on the Bobcat bench seeing time with 12 players finishing in the scoring column.
 
The Bobcats improved to 8-3 on the season and are 5-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart). Culver-Stockton fell to 7-7 on the year and are now 3-5 in Heart action.
 
First Half Action
 
Culver-Stockton scored a bucket to start the game. Brandon Jones (Houston) would complete an old-fashioned three-point play to put Peru State on the board at the 17:53 mark. Twelve seconds later, the Wildcats would regain the lead for what would be the last time in the contest.

Lyle Hexom (Omaha) would grab an offensive rebound and put it back in as the Bobcats took a 5-4 lead and never trailed again after the 17:05 point in the first half.
 
Peru State's first double-digit lead would be at 17-6 after Hexom drained a trey off an assist from KeShawn Wilson (Lincoln) with 11:39 remaining in the first 20 minutes.
 
The Wildcats would cut the lead back down to two at 19-17 with 8:37 left in the first half. Jones would hit a pair of free throws to stop the run.
 
Eventually, with 4:50 left in the half, the Bobcats would stretch their lead back to double digits at 31-20 after Hexom would hit a field goal.
 
Peru State's first 20-point lead came at 43-23 after Jamil Maddred (Camden, N.J.) would make the first of two free throws.
 
Later, Maddred would hit a trey at the buzzer off an assist from Tyrone Carey Jr. (Aurora, Ill.) to make the halftime score 47-25.
 
Second Half Action
 
Wilson would start the second half with a trey on an assist from Nicholas Wurm (Adelaide, Australia) just 15 seconds into the half.
 
With 17:27 left on the clock, Terry Moore Jr. (Kansas City, Kan.) would complete a three-point play to put the Bobcats up by 30 at 56-26.
 
At the 10:54 point of the second half, the Bobcats had stretched their lead to over 30 at 73-42 when Carey Jr. drained a trey off an assist from DeMon Hyler (Kansas City, Mo.).
 
Michael Wardy (Roca) would give the Bobcats its first 40-point lead after he slammed home a bucket coming on an assist from Seth Snoddy (Daly City, Calif.) with 5:27 left in the contest.
 
Peru State's largest lead came with 74 seconds left in the game when Wardy returned the favor to Snoddy who hit a trey to make it 103-54. Wardy would eventually score the final points of the game for the Bobcats.

Team Statistics
 
The Bobcats made 37 of 63 field goals for 58.7% including a remarkable 13 of 26 from behind the arc of for 50%. They were also hot at the free throw line making 18 of 21 for 85.7%. Culver-Stockton was the opposite as they only made 16 of 62 field goal attempts for 25.8%. From three-point range, the Wildcats made 6 of 25 for 24%. At the charity stripe, CSC was 18 of 29 for 62.1%.

Peru State had a big rebounding edge as they grabbed 43 boards compared to 29 for the Wildcats. The Bobcats dished out 16 assists compared to just seven for CSC.
 
The ball game was fairly clean in terms of turnovers as Peru State finished with ten with CSC having just two more miscues. The Bobcats blocked seven shots while Culver-Stockton finished with one. Peru State had one more steal than the Wildcats as they finished with seven.
 
Peru Player Statistics
 
Four of the 12 Bobcats scoring in the game finished in double figures. Hexom led all scorers with 26 on 9 of 14 shooting including making all four free throw attempts. Jones and Carey Jr. each added 15 points as Jones hit 5 of 6 field goals and was the same at the free throw line. Moore Jr. added 11 points. Drew Switzer (Casper, Wyo.) scored eight points in just eight minutes of play.
 
Hexom finished with a double-double as he grabbed ten game-high rebounds. Jones and Wardy each added six boards.
 
Hyler dished out four assists while Wurm, Wilson, and Carey Jr. each handed out two dimes. Hexom blocked three shots with Jones and Maddred each blocking one. Moore Jr. grabbed two steals while five others each had one steal.
 
Upcoming Contests
 
Peru State will play its last two non-conference games of the season on Dec. 29 and 30 as they will participate in the Hoops City Classic in Mitchell, S.D. On the 29th, the Bobcats will face Dakota Wesleyan at 8 p.m. The Tigers are 10-3 on the year after having won three straight. They will be playing two more contests before facing Peru State.
 
On the 30th the Bobcats will take on Dakota State at 2 p.m. The Trojans are 3-10 on the season and will also play three games before facing Peru State in the Classic.
 
The Bobcats will be back on home on January 2 when they host MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) at 7:30 p.m. The Pioneers, who were receiving votes in the most recent coaches' poll, are 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the Heart.
