(Peru, Neb.) – Grand View jumped to an 18-4 first quarter lead and never looked back on their way to an 82-50 win over the visiting Peru State women's basketball team on Saturday.

With the win, the Vikings improved to 13-9 overall and 6-5 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division. Peru State fell to 3-16 on the year and suffered their 13
th straight loss. In the Heart North the Bobcats are 0-11 with eight games remaining in the regular season.

Abigail Niebrugge (Omaha) scored the opening bucket of the game for the 'Cats at the 8:54 mark. Grand View then scored the next four points before
Swaranga Fernando (Colombo, Sri Lanka) hit a bucket to tie it at 4-4 with 7:28 left in the quarter. The Vikings would finish the quarter on a 14-0 run to lead 18-4 at the end of the first ten minutes.

Grand View would hit the first bucket of the second quarter before
Claire Cudney (Marysville, Kan.) would make a pair of free throws to stop the 16-0 run at the 9:18 point on the clock. The Vikings would then score nine straight points before
Lauren Beath (Bakersfield, Calif.) hit a trey off an assist from
Brooke Maeda (Honolulu) to stop the run. The Vikings would eventually lead 40-16 at halftime.

The Vikings would outscore Peru State in the third stanza 22-10 to take a commanding 62-26 lead into the final frame.

Grand View would build its lead to 41 at 76-35 with 4:12 left in the contest before Maeda would hit a trey off an assist from Niebrugge. Later, with 45 seconds to go, Maeda would hit another trey off another assist from Niebrugge to get the Bobcats back to a 30-point deficit before Grand View would score the final bucket.

The Vikings made 50% of their field goals as they hit 29 of 58 attempts. This included making 7 of 16 from long range for 43.8%. At the charity stripe, Grand View connected on 17 of 29 tries for 58.6%. Peru State made just 18 of 60 field goal tries for 30% which included hitting 4 of 18 from behind the arc for 22.2%. At the free throw line, the Bobcats sunk 10 of 17 for 58.8%

Peru State actually out-rebounded the Vikings 43-40. But, the 'Cats only had eight assists while Grand View finished with 21.

Also, the Bobcats struggled handled the ball as they had 30 turnovers compared to 19 for Grand View. Peru State blocked three shots while Grand View blocked seven. The steals were close as the Vikings finished with 11 while the 'Cats had nine.

Two Bobcats finished in double figures with Cudney leading the way with 15 game-high points. Maeda added 12 while Fernando and Niebrugge each added eight.

Upcoming Games

Peru State will play an exhibition game Monday night against the Omaha Mavericks at 7 p.m. in Baxter Arena. The Mavericks are 9-10 overall on the year and are a NCAA DI program.

The rest of the year will be all Heart action and it will resume Wednesday night when the Bobcats host Avila (Mo.) at 5:30 p.m. in the Al Wheeler Activity Center (AWAC). The Eagles are presently 6-9 on the year and are 5-6 in the Heart South having lost their last two games in a row. Avila will play at Haskell (Kan.) Monday night before heading to Peru State.

Wednesday night will be "Auburn Public Schools" Night in the AWAC. Several different student groups and the Calvert Elementary staff will be recognized for their recent honors between games. In addition, the Auburn High School cheerleaders will perform their state competition routine at halftime of the men's game.

Then, on Saturday, it will be the College's Foundation's National Alumni Chili Feed. The Bobcats will host Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in a contest beginning at 2 p.m. The Wildcats are 8-12 overall and are 3-8 in the Heart South having lost three in a row with their last win coming at home over the Bobcats on Jan. 17.

The Alumni Chili Feed will begin at approximately 2:45 p.m. At halftime of both games, the Fantastic Flyers of Gary's Tumbling will perform. Between games, the fall student-athletes who earned athletic and academic honors will be recognized.
