(Peru, Neb.) – If you were at the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) softball games between the visiting MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) (MNU) Pioneers and the Peru State Bobcats, you saw a Jekyll and Hyde type of double header on Saturday.

MNU took the first game 9-1 in five innings while Peru State won the second game 12-4 in five innings. The Pioneers are now 13-13 on the season and are 4-9 in the Heart. The 'Cats are 13-22 overall and 8-12 in conference play.

The Pioneers jumped on the 'Cats for six runs in the top of the first and Peru State could never recover.
Alexis Paulo-Meyers scored the lone run for Peru State in theÂ
first game with a home run. Paulo-Meyers added a two-run
home run in the second game.
Â
Alexis Paulo-Meyers (Waianae, Hawaii) homered to left on a 2-2 count for the only hit and run for the Bobcats to start the bottom of the first.

MNU would add three in the top of the third on their way to the 9-1 win.

The Pioneers scored their nine runs on 12 hits and committed one error. Peru State scored their lone run on a single hit and also had one error.

Paulo-Meyers had the lone hit and RBI for the 'Cats.
Â
Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) started on the mound and threw two innings while being tagged for the loss. Ritchie allowed eight hits and eight earned runs.
Megan Hartman (Lincoln) threw three innings of relief and allowed four hits, one earned run, and struck out three.

After the Pioneers hit a home run to start the top half of their inning, the Jekyll and Hyde effect started in the bottom of the first inning.
Â
Paulo-Meyers singled thru the hole and shortstop to start the inning and then eventually stole second.
Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) bunted and reached on a base hit while driving in Paulo-Meyers.
Leah Quick (Kansas City, Kan.) reached first on a fielder's choice with Moya moving to second, but Quick was out returning to base. Moya advanced to third on a stolen base and later scored on a wild throw.
Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) singled to shallow right center and went to second when Hartman singled shallow down the left field line.
Chelsea Reznicek (Omaha) reached on a fielder's choice with Farrell forced out at third.
Sandy Garcia (Strasburg, Colo.) singled to shallow left with Hartman scoring and Reznicek stopping at second.
Hannah Ciatto (Largo, Fla.) singled to shallow right-center with Reznicek scoring. At the end of the first inning, the 'Cats led 4-1.

Paulo-Meyers started the bottom of the second with a walk and got her second stolen base of the game. Moya bunted and reached with Paulo-Meyers moving to third. Quick also bunted and reached with Paulo-Meyers scoring on the squeeze play. Farrell laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the base runners. Hartman doubled to left-center with Moya scoring, but Quick was tagged out on the play. After the inning was over, Peru State now led 6-1.

Peru State would add more runs in the bottom of the third. After an out,
Amberlin Scharsch (Aiea, Hawaii) reached on a walk and then would advance to second with a stolen base. Paulo-Meyers would step to the plate and get her second home run of the day on a 2-1 count over the center field fence. After a pitching change, Moya reached on an error and then was caught stealing. Quick reached on a walk and Farrell followed with a two-run home of her own over the left field fence on a 2-2 count. At the end of three innings, the 'Cats led 10-1.

The Bobcats would more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Garcia singled to the infield and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ciatto. Scharsch singled thru the hole at shortstop with Garcia moving to third. On a sac fly by Paulo-Meyers, Garcia scored. Scharsch then stole second. Moya got on board after being hit by a pitch. Quick singled shallow down the right field line with Scharsch scoring Peru State's 12
th and final run of the game.

The Pioneers would plate three in the top of the fifth, but it was not enough as the 'Cats won 12-4 in five innings.

Peru State scored their 12 runs on 15 hits and had one error. MNU scored their four runs on four hits and had three miscues.

Hartman went three for three with one RBI to lead Peru State. Paulo-Meyers, Moya, Quick, Farrell, and Garcia each had two hits. Paulo-Meyers had three RBI while Quick and Farrell were each credited with two RBI.

Nicole Reznicek (Omaha) picked up the win, her eighth of the season. This matches Reznicek's most wins in a season as she had eight wins as a freshman. She tossed five innings and allowed four hits, four runs – three earned, and struck out five.

Peru State will host Avila (Mo.) in Heart action on Sunday in a double header scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The Eagles split a pair of games at Graceland on Saturday. Avila is now 21-15 overall and are 12-8 in conference play.

The Bobcats will step out of conference play when they head to Omaha to face the College of St. Mary in a double header scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. The Flames are 13-13 on the season and won a double header on Saturday. They will play a pair of games before Peru State comes to town.

On Thursday, the 'Cats will be back in action when they host Grand View (Iowa) in a make-up double header beginning at 2 p.m. Presently the Vikings are 21-9 overall and 9-5 in the Heart after splitting with Evangel on Saturday.
