Missouri Valley SB Sweeps Peru State on Sunday

(Peru, Neb.) – The Missouri Valley Vikings swept a double header by winning both games in the bottom of the seventh inning in each contest to top the visiting Peru State Bobcats.
 
On Sunday, the Vikings won the first game 4-2 and then took the nightcap 4-3.
 
With the wins, Mo Valley improved to 10-12 overall and 4-8 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart). The Bobcats fell to 11-20 on the season and 6-10 in conference play.
 
First Game Action
 
Peru State scored both of their runs in the top of the first inning. Alexis Paulo-Meyers (Waianae, Hawaii) homered deep down the left field line on a 1-2 count. After two outs, Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) homered to deep left on a 1-0 count. At that point, the 'Cats led 2-0.

Missouri Valley would score one in the bottom of the second and later would score one in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game.
 
In the top of the seventh, the Bobcats had runners on the corners with just one out, but could not move the go-ahead run across the plate. In the bottom of the inning, the Vikings were able to score two for the 4-2 win.
 
The Vikings scored their four runs on nine hits and had one error. Peru State scored their two runs on six hits and also had one error.
 
Sandy Garcia (Strasburg, Colo.) went three for three to lead the team while Paulo-Meyers and Farrell each had one RBI.
 
Nicole Reznicek (Omaha) threw 6.1 innings and suffered the loss. Reznicek allowed nine hits, four runs – three earned, and struck out six.

Second Game Action
 
Neither team scored until the top of the third although the Vikings left the bases loaded in the bottom of the second.
 
The Bobcats plated a run in the top of the third. Kiya Talmadge (Omaha) was hit by a pitch. Talmadge went to second when Hannah Ciatto (Largo, Fla.) laid down a sacrifice bunt. Paulo-Meyers reached base on an error with Talmadge moving to third. Paulo-Meyers went to second on a stolen base. After the second out, Talmadge scored on a passed ball and Paulo-Meyers went to third, but that was all Peru State could plate.

Mo Valley scored two to go ahead 2-1 after three innings. The Vikings would add another run in the bottom of the fourth to go up 3-1.
 
Neither team would score in the fifth or sixth innings.
 
In the top of the seventh, Peru State would score two runs to knot it up.
 
After an out, Talmadge doubled down the left field line. Ciatto singled to shallow left field with Talmadge stopping at third. Ciatto advanced to second on the throw. Paulo-Meyers singled to shallow left-center to drive in Talmadge to make it 3-2. Ciatto moved to third on the play and then Paulo-Meyers stole second. After the second out, Leah Quick (Kansas City, Kan.) singled to shallow center to score Ciatto to tie it at 3-3 with Paulo-Meyers moving to third. But, the 'Cats could not add any additional runs.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, Mo Valley was able to push across the winning run for the 4-3 victory.
 
The Vikings scored four runs on 11 hits and had one error. Peru State scored their three runs on seven hits and had one miscue.
 
Paulo-Meyers went three for four and had one RBI to lead the Bobcats. Quick was credited with one RBI.
 
Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) was the mound for the Bobcats and tossed 6.2 innings while suffering the loss. Ritchie allowed 11 hits, four earned runs, and struck out one.

Upcoming Games
 
The Bobcats are scheduled to face Grand View (Iowa) on back-to-back days, but it appears Mother Nature may force the postponement of one or both dates. Peru State is supposed to go to Des Moines on Tuesday and then host Grand View on Wednesday with game time at 2 p.m. each day. The Vikings are presently 18-6 overall and 6-2 in the Heart.
 
This Saturday and Sunday, the 'Cats will host a pair of double headers. On Saturday, the MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers will visit with games starting at 2 p.m. The Pioneers are 12-12 on the year and 3-8 in the Heart.
 
The Avila Eagles will be in Peru on Sunday for a double header beginning at 1 p.m. The Eagles are 18-14 overall and are 9-7 in conference play.
