Bobcat Softball Gains Split with Culver-Stockton

(Peru, Neb.) – Two teams battling for spots in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) post-season softball tournament split a pair of games on Saturday in Canton, Mo.
 
The Peru State Bobcats took the first game 3-1 while the home-standing Wildcats won the second game 1-0.
 
With the split, Peru State is now 17-30 on the season and is 12-20 in the Heart. The Wildcats are 20-22 overall and 13-18 in conference play.

Peru State came to bat in the top of the fourth and after an out, Megan Hartman (Lincoln) singled through the left side. Sandy Garcia (Strasburg, Colo.) walked with Hartman moving to second. After the second out, Amberlin Scharsch (Aiea, Hawaii) singled down the right field line with both runners scoring due to a throwing error. At that point, the Bobcats led 2-1.
 
The only other score would come in the top of the fifth inning. Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) singled to shortstop. Moya would advance to second on a throwing error. Rachel Carlos (Kaneohe, Hawaii) walked. Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) would reach on a fielding error with Moya scoring on the error to make it 3-1.
 
The Bobcats scored their three runs on seven hits and did not commit any errors. Culver-Stockton scored their lone run on three hits and committed five errors.
 
Scharsch led the team going two for three and had the lone RBI.
 
Nicole Reznicek (Omaha) was on the mound and won her third game of the week. Reznicek through seven innings and allowed just three hits, one earned run, and struck out seven.

Second Game Action
 
Peru State actually outhit Culver-Stockton in the second game, but could not put things together for a run. The Bobcats had a chance to score a run in the bottom of the third, but the base runner was called out at home after a single. Peru State also left runners on second and third in the fifth with two outs and failed to capitalize.

The Wildcats would get their lone run off a home run in the bottom of the fifth.
 
Culver-Stockton scored their lone run on two hits and committed two errors. Peru State had five hits and one error.
 
Alexis Paulo-Meyers (Waianae, Hawaii) and Leah Quick (Kansas City, Kan.) each had two hits for the Bobcats in the loss.
 
Moya suffered the loss. She threw six innings while pitching well. Moya only allowed two hits, one earned run, while striking out four.

Upcoming Games
 
The Bobcats will return home from their nearly six-hour trip Saturday night and head to Hastings on Sunday to play their final non-conference double header of the year. The Broncos split on Saturday and are now 27-19 overall. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
 
The rest of the week will feature the final set of Heart North Division games. Peru State will be in Lamoni, Iowa, on Tuesday to face Graceland for a double header beginning at 4 p.m. The Yellowjackets are 15-21 on the season and are 7-15 in conference play.
 
Then, the final four regular-season games will be played at the Centennial Complex Field. On Saturday, Mount Mercy (Iowa) will be the opponent in a double header scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The Mustangs are 8-36 overall and are 7-25 in Heart action. Between games, it will be Senior Day and Parents' Day for the Bobcats.
 
On Sunday, the Clarke (Iowa) Crusaders will be the opponents in a double header scheduled for 1 p.m. The Crusaders are 34-9 overall and are 23-7 in the Heart. In the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll, Clarke was receiving votes. Between games with Clarke, the Bobcat senior golfers will be recognized.
