(Peru, Neb.) – It was another Jekyll and Hyde performance by the Peru State softball team on Wednesday as they gained a split with the William Penn (WPU) (Iowa) Statesmen.

The Bobcats looked good in the game one 6-2 win and then somewhat disappeared in a 9-0 loss in five innings to the Statesmen in game two.

With the split, the Bobcats are now 16-29 on the season and are 11-19 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart). William Penn is now 19-24 overall and 7-17 in the Heart.

Peru State scored first in the game in the bottom of the second on a
Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) home run over the center field fence on a 1-0 count.

Amberlin Scharsch (Aiea, Hawaii) bunted and reached on a base hit. Paulo-Meyers singled to center with Scharsch stopping at second. After an out,
Leah Quick (Kansas City, Kan.) hit a three-run home run over the center field fence on the first pitch she saw to make the lead 4-0.

The Bobcats would added more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Sandy Garcia (Strasburg, Colo.) singled to shallow left and then Scharsch hit Peru State's third home run of the game over the right field fence on a 1-1 count to make the score 6-0 at that point.

William Penn would score two in the top of the sixth for the final scoring of the game.

Peru State scored their six runs on ten hits and did not commit any errors. WPU scored their two runs on seven hits and had one error.

Paulo-Meyers, Ritchie, and Scharsch each had two hits in the contest with Quick leading the way with three RBI. Scharsch added two RBI.

Nicole Reznicek (Omaha) picked up her tenth win of the season – the most she has had in any single season as a Bobcat. Reznicek threw seven innings while allowing seven hits, two earned runs, and struck out seven.

William Penn scored three in the first inning to take the early lead. The Statesmen would add one in the third, two in the fourth, and three in the fifth in route to their 9-0 five-inning win.

Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.), Quick, and Scharsch had the only hits for the Bobcats.

Megan Hartman (Lincoln) started the game for the 'Cats and was tagged for the loss. Hartman allowed six hits, four runs – three earned, and struck out two. Ritchie pitched two innings and allowed five hits, three earned runs, and struck out three.
Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Florida) threw the final inning. Farrell allowed three hits and two earned runs.

Nicole Reznicek earned her tenth win of the
season in the game one win
The Bobcats have a pair of double headers this weekend – one conference and the final non-conference double header. The Heart match-up will be in Canton, Mo., against the Culver-Stockton in a double header on Saturday beginning at noon. It is a key set of games for both teams as they are battling for the final spot in the post-season tournament. The Wildcats are 17-21 overall and are 10-17 in conference action.

On Sunday, Peru State will head to Hastings to face the Broncos in a double header schedule to start at 1 p.m. Hastings, members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, are 24-18 overall.

During the final week of the regular season, Peru State will play at Graceland on April 25 and then will have home double headers on Saturday and Sunday against Mount Mercy and Clarke respectively. Senior Day will be held on Saturday, April 29.
