(Peru, Neb.) – It came down to the final inning in both games as the Baker Wildcats swept a pair of Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) games over Peru State in Baldwin City, Kan., on Saturday.

The Wildcats topped the Bobcats 3-2 in eight innings in the first game and then won 3-1 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh in the second game.

With the wins, Baker improved to 17-16 overall and are now 10-10 in conference play. Peru State fell to 13-28 on the season and are now 8-18 in the Heart.

Peru State scored in the top of the first inning as
Alexis Paulo-Meyers (Waianae, Hawaii) homered to left field on a 0-2 count.

Baker would tie it in the bottom of the inning and would add a run in the bottom of the third to lead 2-1.
Â
Neither team would score until the top of the seventh.
Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) homered on a 3-2 count to tie the game at 2-2.
Morgan Ritchie hit one deep in the second game, but was out.
Ritchie had a home run in the first game.

It would be in the bottom of the eighth inning when Baker would end up scoring a run on the result of a couple of Bobcat errors.

The Wildcats scored their three runs on eight hits and committed no errors. Peru State scored their two runs on three hits and had five bobbles.

Paulo-Meyers, Ritchie, and
Madison Bowman (Geneva) each had one hit in the contest with Paulo-Meyers and Ritchie being credited with one RBI.

Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) started the game on the mound and threw a complete game while suffering the loss. Moya threw eight innings while allowing eight hits, three runs, and struck out four.

Once again the Bobcats scored in the top of the first to take the early lead. After an out, Moya singled to third and then went to second with a stolen base. After the second out, Moya advanced to third on a wild pitch. Ritchie hit a triple to drive in Moya and the Bobcats led 1-0.

That lead would hold until the bottom of the fourth when Baker scored a run to tie it.

Neither team would score until the bottom of the seventh when the Wildcats scored two runs on a two-run home run.

Chelsea Reznicek (Omaha) each had one hit with Ritchie being credited with one RBI.

Nicole Reznicek (Omaha) threw six innings and was tagged for the loss. Reznicek allowed eight hits, three earned runs, and struck out six.

The Bobcats will host a pair of games next week on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Â
Tuesday's opponent will be Graceland (Iowa) for a double header beginning at 2 p.m. The Yellowjackets are presently 15-15 on the season and are 7-9 in the Heart. They will play Baker on April 15 before heading to Peru State.

Wednesday's opponent will be William Penn (Iowa) for a double header also scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The Statesmen are 18-21 overall and are 6-14 in conference action. They are scheduled to play MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) before coming to Peru.
