(Peru, Neb.) – The bats of the Avila (Mo.) Eagles were a little too much for the Peru State softball team to handle on Sunday at the Centennial Complex Field in Peru.

The Eagles swept the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) double header 9-5 and 11-5.

With the wins, Avila improves to 23-15 overall and are now 14-8 in conference play. The 'Cats fell to 13-24 on the year and 8-14 in the Heart.

Avila scored one in the first, one in the second, one in the third, and three in the fourth before tacking on three more in the top of the sixth inning to lead 9-0 before the Bobcats got on the board.

Alexis Paulo-Meyers gets her first steal of the day
against Avila. Paulo-Meyers had two stolen bases
and two home runs.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Alexis Paulo-Meyers (Waianae, Hawaii) homered over the center field fence on a 0-1 count.
Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) reached on a walk and went to second when
Leah Quick (Kansas City, Kan.) singled shallow down the left field line.
Elizabeth Nelson (Adams) came in to run for Quick.
Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) doubled to deep right to drive in Moya with Nelson stopping at third. But, the Bobcats could not plate any more runs and trailed 9-2 at this point.

After shutting down Avila in the top of the seventh, Peru State did add more runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) reached on a walk and was later forced out when
Hannah Ciatto (Largo, Fla.) reached first on a fielder's choice. Paulo-Meyers singled to shallow right-center with Ciatto stopping at second. Moya bunted and reached base to load the bases. On a ground out by Quick, Ciatto scored. Farrell singled to deep right-center to drive in the base runners to make it 9-5 – the final score.

The Eagles scored their nine runs on 16 hits and committed two errors. Peru State scored their five runs on seven hits and did not commit any errors.

Paulo-Meyers and Farrell each had two hits with Farrell being credited with three RBI. Paulo-Meyers and Quick each had one RBI.

Megan Hartman (Lincoln) started on the mound for Peru State. Hartman threw 3.2 innings and allowed 8 hits – 6 earned runs, and struck out 2. She was tagged for the loss. Moya threw 2.1 innings. She allowed 8 hits, 3 earned runs, and struck out 1. Ritchie pitched the final inning and did not allow any hits and struck out 1.

Avila struck first in the top of the first inning and scored two runs.

In the bottom of the first, Peru State did get on the board as Paulo-Meyers hit her second home run of the day over the center field fence on a 0-0 count.

The Eagles would score three in the second, one in the third, fourth, and sixth to go up 8-1 before the Bobcats would plate more runs.

Quick was hit by a pitch and Nelson entered to run for her. Farrell reached first on a fielder's choice with Nelson forced out at second.
Erin Snyder (Omaha) entered to run for Farrell. After the second out,
Sandy Garcia (Strasburg, Colo.) singled to left with Snyder stopping at second.
Chelsea Reznicek (Omaha) singled to right to load the bases. Ciatto singled to center to drive in Snyder and Garcia with Reznicek stopping at second. Reznicek would advance on the throw. On a passed ball, Reznicek would score to cut the deficit to 8-4.

Avila would add three runs in the top of the seventh to stretch their lead to 11-4.

In the bottom of the seventh, after an out, Moya singled to short and would go to third when Quick doubled to deep right. Farrell would fly out to deep center to score Moya to make the final score 11-5.

The Eagles scored their 11 runs on 15 hits and had one error. Peru State scored their five runs on eight hits and committed one miscue.

Paulo-Meyers and Garcia each had two hits for the Bobcats. Ciatto had two RBI while Paulo-Meyers and Farrell were each credited with one RBI.

Nicole Reznicek (Omaha) threw a complete game and suffered the loss. Reznicek allowed 15 hits, 11 earned runs, and struck out seven.

Mother Nature permitting, the Bobcats will head to Omaha on Wednesday to play a non-conference double header with the College of St. Mary beginning at 3 p.m. The Flames are presently 13-13 on the season.

Then, on Thursday, the 'Cats will be hosting Grand View (Iowa) in a make-up Heart North double header beginning at 2 p.m. The Vikings are 20
th-ranked and are 23-9 overall and 11-5 in the Heart. The teams split an earlier double header.

Peru State will play two Heart South opponents in double headers are Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Bobcats will face the Wildcats of Baker in Baldwin City, Kan., beginning at 4 p.m. Baker is presently 14-15 overall and 7-9 in the Heart.

On Saturday, the Bobcats will be in Atchison, Kan., to face Benedictine at 1 p.m. The Ravens are currently 17-14 on the season and are 9-9 in conference action.
