(Peru, Neb.) – In Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) softball action in Atchison, Kan., on Tuesday, the Peru State and Benedictine teams split a double header.

The Bobcats took game one 3-1 while the Ravens took the nightcap 4-2. Peru State is now 11-16 on the season and is 6-6 in Heart action. Benedictine is 13-10 on the year and is 5-5 in conference play.

The 'Cats got on the board in the top of the first inning.
Â
Alexis Paulo-Meyers (Waianae, Hawaii) singled to center.
Chelsea Reznicek (Omaha) bunted and reached on a fielder's choice as Paulo-Meyers was forced at second.
Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) reached on a walk.
Rachel Carlos (Kaneohe, Hawaii) singled to load the bases, but Reznicek was able to score on a bobble on the play.
Megan Hartman (Lincoln) doubled to deep left-center to drive in Farrell and Peru State led 2-0 at that point.

The Ravens would score their only run in the bottom of the third inning when they cut it to 2-1.

In the top of the sixth, the Bobcats would add an insurance run which came off an
Ally Hazen (Maxwell) home run over the right field fence on a 1-2 count.

Peru State scored their three runs on nine hits and did not have any errors. Benedictine scored their one run on eight hits and had one error.
Â
Paulo-Meyers went three for four to lead Peru State. Carlos and Hartman each had two hits. Hartman and Hazen were each credited with one RBI.

Hartman was the winning pitcher. She hurled a complete seven innings and allowed eight hits, one earned run, and struck out three.

In the top of the third,
Amberlin Scharsch (Aiea, Hawaii) singled thru the hole at second base, but was forced out on the next play when
Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) reached first on a fielder's choice. Paulo-Meyers doubled to deep right-center to drive in Moya and Peru State led 1-0 at that point. Reznicek singled thru the hole at second base with Paulo-Meyers stopping at third. Farrell followed with a single down the right field line with Paulo-Meyers scoring for the Bobcats' second run.

Benedictine would score one run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Later, the Ravens would add three runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up 4-2. Peru State was not able to score in the sixth or seventh although having opportunities to do so.

The Ravens scored their four runs on five hits and had one error. Peru State scored their two runs on seven hits and did not commit any errors.

Paulo-Meyers was the only Bobcat with more than one hit as she finished two for four with one RBI. Farrell was credited with the other RBI.

Peru State was to have hosted Graceland on Wednesday, but the Mathews Pond (aka the Centennial Complex Field) was not playable. That double header has been moved to April 18.

The Bobcats are on the road for their next three double headers. This weekend the 'Cats will be in Missouri. On Saturday, Peru State will be playing Evangel in Springfield beginning at 1 p.m. Currently, the Crusaders are 14-8 on the year and are 8-2 in the Heart.

Then, on Sunday, the Bobcats will face the Vikings of Missouri Valley in Marshall, Mo., in a double header beginning at 1 p.m. The Vikings are presently 5-11 overall and are 1-7 in conference play.

Next Tuesday, Peru State will head to Des Moines to take on Grand View at 2 p.m. and then will host the Vikings on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Grand View is 15-5 overall and are 3-1 in the Heart.
