(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State baseball team picked up their 15
th win of the season with a nine-inning non-conference win over the Bethany Swedes in Lindsborg, Kan., on Monday.

The 'Cats won 11-7 as they came from behind in middle part of the game to win.

Peru State improved to 15-5 while Bethany fell to 17-11 on the season.

Brandon Sedell (Davie, Fla.) got things started in the top of the second inning for Peru State with a single up the middle.
Scout Villanueva (Bakersfield, Calif.) singled thru the hole at second base with Sedell stopping at second. On a sacrifice bunt, the base runners advanced. After another out,
Jaime Del Hoyo (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) reached on a walk.
Chaz Dunn (Falls City) also reached on a walk and drove in Sedell.
Edwin Muniz (Dorado, Puerto Rico) also walked to drive in Villanueva to make it 2-0 Peru State.

The Swedes would eventually tie it in the bottom of the third at 2-2. Then, in the bottom of fourth, Bethany added another two runs to go up 4-2.

After an out in the top of the fifth,
Mark McGinnity (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) doubled to right-center. After another out, Villanueva doubled to deep right to drive in McGinnity to close the gap to 4-3.

Peru State would leave the bases loaded in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of half of the sixth, the Swedes would add an insurance run to lead 5-3 after six complete.

In the top of the seventh,
Sterling Rupp (Grand Island) reached on a walk. After a pitching change, Rupp went to second on a wild pitch. After an out,
Darren Hasch (Destin, Fla.) hit a two-run home run over the right field fence on the first pitch he saw to knot the game at 5-5.

After holding the Swedes scoreless in the bottom of the seventh, Peru State would get back in the scoring column in the top of the eighth. After an out, Muniz doubled to deep center.
Caleb Dameron (Henderson, Colo.) entered to run for Muniz.
Gianfranco Garlobo (Carolina, Puerto Rico) was hit by a pitch. McGinnity singled shallow down the fight field line to load the bases. Sedell hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Dameron to break the tie. After
Julian Hunt (Brooklyn, N.Y.) entered to run for McGinnity, Villanueva hit a three-run home run over the right field fence to put the Bobcats up 9-5 at that point.

In the bottom of the eighth, Bethany would add one run to cut the lead to 9-6.

The 'Cats would add some insurance runs in the top of the ninth.
Jordan Kelly (Omaha) singled to shallow right and would advance all the way to third on the play on an error. After an out, Dunn hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Kelly to make it 10-6. Muniz reached on a walk and Dameron came in to run for Muniz. Garlobo reached on an error with Dameron stopping at second. McGinnity would reach on an error with Dameron eventually scoring on the play to put Peru State up 11-6.

Bethany would add a run on a home run in the bottom of the ninth, but it was not enough as Peru State prevailed 11-7.

The Bobcats scored their 11 runs on nine hits and committed one error. Bethany scored their seven runs on 11 hits and had four miscues.

Villanueva led the team going three of five at the plate with four RBI. McGinnity added two hits while Hasch and Dunn each had two RBI.

Andrew Robinson (Imperial Beach, Calif.) started the game for Peru State and pitched 4.0 innings. Robinson allowed 3 hits, 4 earned runs, and struck out 2.
Alfredo Barroso (Hialeah, Fla.) tossed 3.0 innings and was credited with the win. Barroso allowed 4 hits, 1 earned run, and had 1 strike out.
Christian Sanchez (Ponce, Puerto Rico) threw 0.2 innings. Sanchez allowed 2 hits and 1 earned run.
Cragin Missak (Bellevue) threw the final 1.1 innings. Missak gave up 2 hits and 1 earned run.

Peru State will be back home for its next pair of double headers which are spaced out at this point. On Saturday, March 25, the Bobcats will host Central Methodist (Mo.) with the first game beginning at 1 p.m. The Eagles are on an 18-game winning streak and are presently 21-4 on the season and lead the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) South Division with a 6-0 mark. Central Methodist was receiving votes in the most recent NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll.

Then, on Tuesday, March 28, Bethany will come to Peru State for a non-conference double header beginning at 1 p.m.
