(Peru, Neb.) – In a weekend where it could have been easy to have a letdown after toppling the 11
th-ranked team in the NAIA, the Bobcat volleyball team were in the right frame of mind as they swept their opponents on the road.
On Friday, Peru State took care of Culver-Stockton in Canton, Mo. The 'Cats followed that with a sweep of William Penn University (WPU) Saturday afternoon in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The Bobcats won 25-14, 25-22, 25-16.

With the two wins, the Bobcats are now 21-3 overall, having won five in a row. In addition, the Bobcats are 4-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart). The Lady Statesmen fell to 3-15 overall and are 0-4 in the Heart.
First Set Action
A kill by
Nadja Janjevic (Podgorica, Montenegro) on an assist from
Brooke Rudebusch (Moorpark, Calif.) got the Bobcats started. Rudebusch would follow with a service ace and Peru State never trailed in the first set. A kill by
Jhessica Martins (Uberlandia, Brazil) on an assist from
Meg Grose (Peoria, Ariz.) finished the set with a Bobcat 25-14 win.
Second Set Action
The Lady Statesmen took an early 6-3 lead and had the same three-point lead later at 9-6. The set was tied 12 different times with the last tie coming at 21-21. A kill by
Alex Bowman (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) on an assist from Rudebusch broke the tie. The kill was followed by a service ace by
Cristina Viera (Montevideo, Uruguay). WPU scored on a kill to make it 23-22, but Janjevic quickly responded with a kill, again from Rudebusch.
Yorgelys Jaspe (San Carlos, Venezuela) would get the kill on an assist from Rudebusch to give Peru State the 25-22 set win.

Third Set Action
After a 1-1 tie to start the third set, a Jaspe kill from Rudebusch put Peru State up for good in the third set. A Lady Statesmen service error would give the 'Cats their final point as they won 25-16.

Statistics
As a team, Peru State hit .321 while holding William Penn to a .034 hitting percentage.
Martins, for the second night in a row, led Peru State with ten kills as she was the only player on either team with double-digit kills.
Kira Shapiro (Omaha) added eight kills while hitting .348. Janjevic finished with seven kills and hit a remarkable .667. Bowman added five kills and hit .714 so the middles for the Bobcats were very effective.
Rudebusch had a match-high 25 assists while Grose added four.
Viera finished with three service aces with Rudebusch,
Gianna Gangi (Simi Valley, Calif.), Jaspe, and Janjevic each adding one ace.

Shapiro and
Rian Kirby (Gretna) each had one solo block while Janjevic added four block assists. Shapiro also had three block assists with Bowman and Martins each adding two block assists.
Upcoming Matches
It is another busy week for the Bobcats as they have three matches scheduled. On Tuesday, Peru State will travel to Atchison, Kan., to take on Benedictine. The Ravens are now 6-9 on the season having beat the same two teams Peru State played this past weekend. In the Heart, Benedictine is now 2-1.
The 'Cats will play two matches at home which will start and finish the weekend Homecoming activities. Friday night, Peru State will host league newcomer Mount Mercy from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Mustangs are 12-4 overall and have yet to play a conference match.
Following the Peru State homecoming football game, the Bobcats will host the other Heart newcomer this year, Clarke from Dubuque, Iowa. The Crusaders are off to a 13-4 mark and also have not played a conference match, but will face Benedictine the Friday night before coming to Peru.
