Wildcats Win Battle of the Cats in Softball

(Peru, Neb.) – It was a battle of the "Cats" on Saturday at Peru State with the "Cats" from Missouri sweeping a double header. The Culver-Stockton Wildcats took the first game 12-1 in five innings and then won the second game 3-2.
 
With the pair of wins, the Wildcats improved to 29-15 overall and 15-7 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Culver-Stockton will finish fourth in the conference standings as they have completed their Heart regular season. Peru State fell to 11-37 overall and are 3-17 in conference action.

First Game Action
 
Things did not go well for the Bobcats in the first game as the Wildcats struck early. Culver-Stockton scored three runs in the first and added six more in the second to lead 9-0. They added another run in the top of the third to extend their lead to 10-0
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Peru State scored their lone run. After two outs, Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) doubled to right-center and then was driven home when Kayla Guerrero (Omaha) doubled to deep left. That would be the only run Peru State would score while Culver-Stockton added two more in the top of the fifth to take the 12-1 win in five innings.
 
The Wildcats scored their 12 runs on 13 hits and had one error. Peru State scored their lone run on four hits and did not have any errors.
 
Ritchie, Guerrero, Leah Quick (Kansas City, Kan.), and Hannah Mitchel (Nebraska City) each had one hit with Guerrero being credited for the lone RBI.
 
Nicole Reznicek (Omaha) was on the mound to start the game and had her shortest outing of the season. Reznicek tossed just two innings and allowed seven hits, nine earned runs, and struck out three. Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) threw the final three innings. Moya allowed six hits, three earned runs, and struck out three.

Second Game Action
 
The second game was more of a pitching duel. The Wildcats did get on the board first as they scored two in the top of the first and added their final run in the top of the fourth.

Peru State did squander scoring opportunities early in the game before getting on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Quick singled thru the hole at second to start the inning with Chelsea Reznicek (Omaha) coming in to run. Cheyenne Dalrymple (Stockton, Calif.) reached on a fielder's choice with Reznicek advancing to second. Madison Bowman (Geneva) also reached on a fielder's choice with Reznicek forced out at third. Halle Holloway (Waco) also reached on a fielder's choice with Bowman forced out at second and Dalrymple moving to third. Sydney Armbruster (Falls City) singled to shallow left to drive in Dalrymple and Peru State scored their first run of the game. The Bobcats would strand two in the inning and trailed 3-1 at that point.
 
The Bobcats would add another run in the bottom of the fifth. Ritchie singled to start the inning and went to third when Guerrero doubled to left-center. Alexandra Kenney (Milford) came in to run for Guerrero. After an out, Chelsea Reznicek grounded out, but Ritchie was able to score to make it 3-2.
 
Peru State had an opportunity to score and tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, but stranded runners on second and third.
 
The Wildcats scored their three runs on five hits and did not commit any errors. Peru State scored their two runs on nine hits and committed two errors.
 
Ritchie went three for four while Armbruster went two for four to lead Peru State. Armbruster and Chelsea Reznicek were credited with one RBI apiece.
 
Ritchie as on the mound and pitched a complete game to take the loss. She allowed five hits, three runs – two earned, and struck out five.

Peru State will close out its regular season on Saturday, April 30, when they host Central Methodist (Mo.) University in a double header beginning at 2 p.m. Currently, the Eagles are 31-13 overall and 13-3 in the Heart.
 
Between games, the Bobcats will recognize their seniors, players, and parents.
 
Also, this will be the "Community and College Celebration" which is being sponsored by the Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), the College's Professional Staff, and the Foundation.
