(Peru, Neb.) – The Baker University Wildcat baseball team continued on a roll as they swept the Bobcats in a four-game series in Baldwin City, Kan., this weekend. The Wildcats have now won seven straight in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
Baker topped the Bobcats 7-2 and 4-3 on Saturday and 6-5 and 10-3 on Sunday. The Wildcats are now 19-23 on the season and 13-11 in conference play. Peru State has now lost six straight and is 15-26 overall and dropped to 10-14 in the Heart.
Saturday Game One Action
The Wildcats scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second.
Travis Navarro
In the top of the third, Peru State would score their only runs of the game.
Sterling Rupp (Grand Island) started the inning with a single thru the hole at shortstop.
Travis Navarro (San Jacinto, Calif.) doubled over the right field fence with Rupp stopping at third.
Caleb Dameron (Henderson, Colo.) singled to left to drive in Rupp with Navarro stopping at third.
Kadyn Glass (Redlands, Calif.) hit a sacrifice fly to right which was deep enough for Navarro to score. At that point, the 'Cats led 2-1.
The Bobcats kept that lead until the bottom of the fifth when Baker scored two to go up 3-2. In the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats scored four runs and went on to take a 7-2 win.
Baker scored their seven runs on seven hits and had one error. The 'Cats scored their two runs on six hits and also had one error.
Navarro went two for three to lead Peru State. Glass and Dameron were each credited with one RBI.
O'Keefe Hall
(Reno, Nev.) started the game for the Bobcats and was tagged for the loss. Hall threw five innings and allowed five hits, three runs – two earned, and struck out seven.
Tyler Wheelock (Omaha) came in to relieve Hall and got one out. Wheelock allowed one earned run.
Christian Sanchez (Ponce, Puerto Rico) did not record an out and was tagged for one hit and two earned runs.
Cragin Missak (Bellevue) got the final two outs. Missak allowed one hit and one earned run.

Saturday Game Two Action
Baker scored one in the bottom of the first and three more in the bottom of the second to lead 4-0.
Edwin Rodriguez
In the top of the third, Navarro singled to short to start the inning and went to second when Dameron reached on a fielder's choice. However, Dameron was thrown out on the play. On a ground out, Navarro went to third.
Edwin Rodriguez (Ponce, Puerto Rico) singled to short with Navarro scoring to make it 4-1.
It would be Navarro starting things off for the 'Cats in top of the fifth as he singled to center. Navarro would go to second when Dameron singled. Both base runners would advance when Glass laid down a sacrifice bunt. On a fly out by Rodriguez, Navarro would score to cut the lead to 4-2.
Kyle Killen (Commerce City, Colo.) singled back to the pitcher's mound and reached to start the top of the sixth. After an out, Rupp singled to left with Killen stopping at second. The runners advanced on the next ground out. Navarro was intentionally walked to load the bases and then Dameron walked to bring home Killen to make it 4-3. Unfortunately, the 'Cats left the bases loaded and went on to lose the game.
The Wildcats scored their four runs on seven hits and did not have any errors. The Bobcats scored their three runs on ten hits and had two miscues.
Rodriguez went three for four and drove in two for Peru State. Killen, Rupp, and Navarro each had two hits with Dameron adding one RBI.
Ryan Hirschfeld (Brush, Colo.) started the game for the 'Cats and lasted only 1.2 innings. Hirschfeld took the loss after allowing 5 hits and 1 earned run.
Jacob Trujillo (Hollister, Calif.) threw 4.1 innings in relief. Trujillo gave up 2 hits, 3 earned runs, and struck out 6.

Sunday Game One Action
The Wildcats jumped to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

In the top of the third, Peru State was able to get on the board.
Chet Brown (Redlands, Calif.) homered to right on a 1-1 count to begin the inning, but that was all the 'Cats could put on the board.
In the bottom of the fourth, Baker added two more runs to extend their lead to 6-1.
Peru State would respond in the top of the fifth. After an out, Rodriguez singled to left and went to second when
Mark McGinnity (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) singled to right. Killen reached to load the bases on an error by the Wildcats. After the second out of the inning, Navarro hit a grand slam on a full count to cut the lead to 6-5. It was Navarro's first home run of the year.
But, that was not enough as Peru State could not score in the sixth or seventh innings.
Baker scored their six runs on nine hits and had two errors. Peru State scored their five runs on nine hits and had one error.
Rodriguez and Brown each had two hits to lead the team. Navarro had four RBI while Brown was credited for one.
Andrew Robinson (Imperial Beach, Calif.) started on the mound and was tagged for the loss. Robinson pitched four innings and allowed eight hits and six earned runs.
Angus Miller (Fontana, Calif.) threw the final two innings and allowed just one hit.

Sunday Game Two Action
The Bobcats scored first in the first inning. Glass singled to short but was forced out at second when Rodriguez reached on a fielder's choice. After another out, Killen tripled to deep right-center to drive in Rodriguez to put Peru State up 1-0.

Baker would take the lead in the bottom of the second with two runs to lead 2-1.
Peru State would regain the lead in the top of the third. Dameron reached on an error and went to second when Glass singled. Both base runners advanced when Rodriguez laid down a sacrifice bunt. McGinnity followed with a single to drive in Dameron to tie the score with Glass going to third. On Killen's sacrifice fly, Glass scored to put the Bobcats up 3-2. Unfortunately, that would be the end of the Bobcat scoring in the game.
The Bobcats held the lead until the bottom of the fifth when the Wildcats went on a scoring rampage. Baker scored eight runs in the inning which was aided by two Peru State errors. The Wildcats went on to win the game 10-3.
Baker scored their ten runs on 13 hits and had three errors. Peru State scored their three runs on six hits and also had three miscues.
Glass had half of the team's hits. Killen was credited with two RBI while McGinnity had the other one.
Thomas Hernandez (Hollister, Calif.) started on the mound for the Bobcats and went 4.1 innings. Hernandez allowed 9 hits and 6 runs – 5 earned. Miller came in to relieve Hernandez and could not get an out. He allowed 3 hits and 4 runs – 3 earned. Sanchez tossed the final 1.2 innings. He gave up just 1 hit and struck out 2.

Upcoming Games
Peru State is off until the weekend when they host Avila (Mo.) University in a pivotal four-game series for both teams. The games will begin at 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The Eagles are 29-18 overall and 20-4 in the Heart and are on top of the conference. They have won four in a row.
On Tuesday, April 26, the Bobcats will host Bellevue University in one nine-inning non-conference contest beginning at 3 p.m. The Bruins are having an excellent season and are presently 34-6 overall.
