(Peru, Neb.) – The Bobcat softball team was able to get one win out of four games this weekend and had an opportunity to take another game, but could not get it done.

Peru State lost a pair of Heart of America Athletic Conference games to Evangel University in Springfield, Mo., on Saturday. The Crusaders won 11-6 and 4-0. On Sunday, Peru State took the first game at York College by a score of 6-3 before dropping the second contest 8-0 in five innings.

After the weekend, Peru State is now 10-30 overall and are 2-10 in the Heart.

Evangel Game One Action

Due to Dak-Stats' server going down on Saturday which wreaked havoc with many school's statistics, here are limited stats for both Evangel games.

Peru State scored their six runs on 11 hits and committed two errors in the first game.
Halle Holloway (Waco), Sydney Armbruster (Falls City), Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln), Jenna Gruber (Lincoln), and
Madison Bowman (Geneva) each had two hits in the win. Bowman was credited with three RBI while Gruber had two and
Kayla Guerrero (Omaha) added one.

Ritchie took the loss throwing six innings. She allowed 15 hits, 11 earned runs, and struck out three.

Evangel Game Two Action
Â
The Bobcats managed just five hits in the shutout loss in game two.

Holloway, Guerrero, Ritchie, Bowman, and
Leah Quick (Kansas City, Kan.) each had one hit.

Nicole Reznicek (Omaha) threw the second game and suffered the loss. Reznicek gave up seven hits, four runs – two earned, and struck out six.

The Bobcats jumped out to a four-run lead in the top of the first inning over the Panthers. After an out, Armbruster tripled to deep right. Guerrero singled to shallow center to score Armbruster for the first run of the inning. Ritchie followed with a home run over the center field fence on a 2-2 count to make it 3-0. Quick doubled deep down the left field line and went to third on a wild throw. After a pitching change, Gruber singled to right with Quick scoring for the fourth run on the inning.

That 4-0 lead held up until the bottom of the fourth when York scored one run to make it 4-1.

Peru State responded in the top of the fifth. Guerrero singled up the middle.
Sara Trojan (Milford) came in to run for Guerrero and came home when Ritchie hit her second home run of the game over the center field fence on the first pitch to her. The 'Cats now led 6-1.

York would score two in the bottom of the sixth, but that would all the scoring as the Bobcats won 6-3.

Guerrero went three for four to lead Peru State while Armbruster, Ritchie, and Quick each had two hits. Ritchie led the team with four RBI while Guerrero and Gruber each had one RBI.

Peru State was no hit in the second game and lost 8-0 in five innings.

York did not score in the first three innings but exploded for all eight runs in the bottom of the fourth for the win.

The Panthers scored their eight runs on eight hits and did not commit any errors. Peru State did not have any errors as well.

Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) took the loss as she threw 3.1 innings and allowed 5 hits and 5 earned runs. Ritchie threw the final .2 innings. She allowed 3 hits and 3 earned runs.

Peru State will host a pair of Heart double headers this week.

On Wednesday, the Bobcats host William Penn (Iowa) University in a double header beginning at 1 p.m. Currently, the Statesmen are 14-23 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

The 'Cats will face Graceland (Iowa) University on Saturday in a double header beginning at 2 p.m. The Yellowjackets are 10-16 on the season and are 3-11 in the Heart.

Then, on Sunday, Peru State will travel to face Hastings College in a non-conference double header scheduled for 2 p.m. The Broncos have an overall record of 27-13.
