(Peru, Neb.) – The Central Methodist (Mo.) University (CMU) Eagles came into the Centennial Complex Field and swept a double header from the Bobcat baseball team on Tuesday.

The Eagles took the first game 8-2 and then took the second game 9-5. With the wins, CMU improved to 27-13 overall and 12-7 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Peru State fell to 15-22 on the season and are now at .500 in conference play at 10-10.

The 'Cats scored first in the bottom of the second.
Chet Brown (Redlands, Calif.) reached on a walk and
Matthew Sontag (Davie, Fla.) came in to run for Brown.
Sterling Rupp (Grand Island) reached on a walk with Sontag advancing to second.
Jeremy Mouton (San Jacinto, Calif.) hit a sacrifice bunt with both base runners advancing. After another out, on a wild pitch, Sontag scored with Rupp advancing to third.
Caleb Dameron (Henderson, Colo.) reached on a walk. Later, on a passed ball, Rupp scored to put the Bobcats up 2-0, before the final out of the inning.

That score held until the top of the fourth when an Eagle hit a home run to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The top of the sixth turned disastrous for Peru State as CMU put up seven runs and eventually won the game 8-2.

The Eagles scored their eight runs on ten hits and had one error. Peru State scored their two runs on six hits and committed three errors.

Kadyn Glass (Redlands, Calif.) went three for four to lead the 'Cats.
Mark McGinnity (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) added two hits.

Jacob Trujillo (Hollister, Calif.) started on the mound for the Bobcats and went five-plus innings. Trujillo allowed five hits, six runs – five earned, and struck out eight while being tagged for the loss.
Angus Miller (Fontana, Calif.) threw the final two innings. Miller allowed five hits and two earned runs.

Like the first game, Peru State scored first in the second game. In the bottom of the second,
Kyle Killen (Commerce City, Colo.) singled thru the hole at short stop. After an out, Killen stole second and later went to third on an error by CMU. On a ground out by Rupp, Killen scored to put the 'Cats ahead 1-0.

The Eagles would tie it in the top of the third with one run. CMU would take the lead in the fourth inning with two runs and added two more in the fifth to lead 5-1. Central Methodist would tack on another three runs in the sixth to go out to an 8-1 lead.

Peru State would get back in the scoring column in the bottom of the sixth. After an out,
Edwin Rodriguez (Ponce, Puerto Rico) reached on a walk but was forced out at second on a fielder's choice with McGinnity safe at first. On a wild pitch, McGinnity went to second. Then, Killen hit a double to deep left-center to drive in McGinnity to make it 8-2.

CMU would add a run in the top of the eighth to extend their lead to 9-2.

In the bottom of the eighth, Peru State tried to rally and did put some additional runs on the board.
Chaz Dunn (Falls City), who had entered to play second, was hit by a pitch to start the inning. On a passed ball, Dunn went to second. Rodriguez reached with a walk and the Eagles made a pitching change. McGinnity came to the plate and singled to left to drive in Dunn with Rodriguez stopping at second. Killen reached on a fielder's choice with Rodriguez scoring but McGinnity was thrown out. Killen advanced on the throw. Brown singled to second to score Killen, but that would be all the 'Cats could muster and they trailed 9-5 which was the eventual final score.

Mouton went three for four to lead the team while Killen added two hits. Killen had two RBI while McGinnity, Brown, and Rupp each had one RBI.

Daniel Muniz (Miami, Fla.) started the game and threw 4.2 innings while being tagged for the loss. Muniz allowed seven hits, five earned runs, and struck out five. Sontag came in to relieve Muniz and tossed 2.1 innings. Sontag allowed three hits, three earned runs, and struck out two.
Tyler Wheelock (Omaha) threw the final two innings. He allowed one hit, one earned run, and struck out one.

Upcoming Games

The Bobcats will be heading to Baldwin City, Kan., on Saturday and Sunday to face Baker University in a Western Division four-game series. Game time on Saturday is 2 p.m. while Sunday's games will begin at 1 p.m. The Wildcats are currently 15-23 overall and 9-11 in conference play.

The following weekend, Peru State will be hosting Avila (Mo.) University in another Western Division match-up with double headers on both Saturday and Sunday. Game time on Saturday is 1 p.m. while Sunday will start at noon. The Eagles are 25-17 overall and 16-4 in the Heart.
