Bobcat Baseball Takes Pair from Graceland

(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State baseball team remained on a roll in Heart of America Athletic Conference play as they swept the home team Graceland University Yellowjackets on Monday in Lamoni, Iowa. The 'Cats have now won five in a row – all in Heart play.
 
The Bobcats took game one 11-4 and then won the second game 8-4. With the wins, Peru State improved to 10-16 overall and have evened their conference mark at 5-5. Graceland is now 9-24 overall and are 3-7 in the Heart.

Game One Recap
 
The Bobcats exploded for eight runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Yellowjackets scored their first run in the bottom of the third and then added three more in the bottom of the fourth. The 'Cats added three in the top of the sixth for the 11-4 win.
 
Peru State scored their 11 runs on ten hits and committed one error. Graceland scored their four runs on three hits and had two errors.
 
Kadyn Glass (Redlands, Calif.), Mark McGinnity (Pembroke Pines, Fla.), and Kyle Killen (Commerce City, Colo.) each had two hits to lead the Bobcats. All three, along with Jordan Silva (Lynnwood, Wash.) each had a double while Glass also had a home run. Glass and McGinnity were each credited with three RBI while Silva added two.

O'Keefe Hall (Reno, Nev.) threw the first three innings for the 'Cats. Hall did not allow any hits, but gave up one earned run and struck out six. Matthew Sontag (Davie, Fla.) threw one inning and was credited for the win by the technical baseball rules. Sontag allowed one hit and three runs – none earned. Christian Sanchez (Ponce, Puerto Rico) threw one inning and gave up two hits, no runs, and struck out one. Angus Miller (Fontana, Calif.) threw the final two innings and did not allow any hits.

Game Two Recap
 
The 'Cats would score one in the top of the second only to see Graceland take the lead in the bottom of the inning with two runs. The Yellowjackets would add another run in the bottom of the third and maintained a 3-1 lead until the fifth inning. In the top of the fifth, Peru State scored two to tie it at 3-3. In the bottom of the same inning, Graceland regained the lead by scoring one run which ironically was their last run of the game.

Peru State would score two in the top of the seventh to go up 5-4. The Bobcats would add an insurance run in the top of the eighth and then added two more in the top of the ninth to take an 8-4 victory.
 
Seth Thomason (Crestview, Fla.) led the team while going 3 for 4. Edwin Rodriguez (Ponce, Puerto Rico), Killen, Silva, and Jeremy Mouton (San Jacinto, Calif.) each added two hits in the win. Killen and Mouton each had a double while Silva had a home run in the contest. Rodriguez and Silva each had two RBI to lead the team.
 
Thomas Hernandez (Hollister, Calif.) threw the first innings. Hernandez allowed seven hits, four runs – three earned, and struck out four. Miller threw one inning and allowed one hit while gaining the win. Sanchez threw one inning and did not allow a hit while striking out one. Cragin Missak (Bellevue) threw the final two innings. Missak allowed just one hit and no runs.

Upcoming Games
 
Peru State will host a non-conference game on Tuesday against Midland University at 2 p.m. This will be a nine-inning contest. The Warriors are presently 20-11-1 and swept a double header in Fremont earlier against the Bobcats.
 
The 'Cats will be back in conference action on Friday and Saturday when they host MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) University in double headers each day. The games will start at 1 p.m. each day. The Pioneers are presently ranked 13th in the NAIA and are 21-5 overall. However, in the Heart, MidAmerica Nazarene is just 6-4.
