(Peru, Neb.) – The Avila University Eagles swept a Heart of America Athletic Conference double header at home in Kansas City, Mo., Tuesday over the Bobcat softball team. The Eagles won 8-0 in six innings and then took a 3-2 decision in eight innings in the second contest.

With the wins, Avila improved to 22-10-2 overall and 3-1 in the Heart. Peru State fell to 6-18 overall and 1-3 in conference action.

Avila scored three in the bottom of first, one in the second, two in the third, and then finished the game with two in the bottom of the sixth.

The 'Cats left the bases loaded in the top of the third without capitalizing. They also left base runners on second and third in the top of the fifth without scoring.

The Eagles scored their eight runs on eight hits and had no errors. Peru State had four hits and committed two errors.

Halle Holloway (Waco) continued to hit the ball well in the lead-off position for Peru State as she went 2 for 3.
Sydney Armbruster (Falls City) and
Sara Trojan (Milford) each had one hit.

Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) started the game for Peru State and was tagged for the loss. Ritchie threw 3.2 innings and allowed four hits and four runs – three earned.
Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) threw 2 innings. Moya allowed four hits, four runs – two earned, and struck out one.

Kayla GuerreroThe Bobcats got on the board first in the second game. Holloway doubled to left-center and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Armbruster.
Kayla Guerrero (Omaha) would reach base on a fielder's choice with Holloway scoring. Peru State would lead 1-0 until the bottom of the second when Avila would tie it up.

In the top of the third,
Holly Kurz (Elkhorn) singled to center. Then, after an out, Armbruster would single to left with Kurz stopping at second. Guerrero singled shallow down the left field line to drive in Kurz with Armbruster moving to third on the throw and Guerrero going to second. Again, the 'Cats left two runners on base without any additional scoring, but led 2-1 at that point. The Eagles would again tie it in the bottom of the inning at 2-2.

For the next four innings, it was mostly a pitcher's duel except that the Bobcats could have potentially gained the lead in the top of the fifth, but again left base runners on second and third.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, an error cost the Bobcats as Avila scored on a wild throw to win the game 3-2 in extra innings.

Avila scored their three runs on eight hits and did not commit an error. Peru State scored their two runs on seven hits and had the one costly error.

Armbruster led the team going 2 for 3 while Guerrero's lone hit produced the two RBI.

Nicole Reznicek (Omaha) threw a complete game and suffered the loss. Reznicek scattered eight hits, gave up three runs – two earned, and struck out four.

Upcoming GamesÂ
Weather permitting, Peru State will host Nebraska Wesleyan University on Thursday at 2 p.m. in a double header. Presently, the Prairie Wolves are 6-7 on the season and have lost three in a row.

On Saturday, the 'Cats will travel to Olathe, Kan., and will be back in Heart action when they take on MidAmerica Nazarene University in a double header beginning at 1 p.m. The Pioneers are 7-3 and have yet to play a conference game, but will host Culver-Stockton College on Friday prior to the Bobcats coming to town.
