(Peru, Neb.) – The Vikings of Grand View University were not kind hosts to the Peru State Bobcat baseball team as they swept a double header in Des Moines on Saturday.

Grand View took the first game 7-0 and then held on to win the second game 7-5. With the two wins, the Vikings improved to 8-4 overall and 4-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Peru State fell to 5-15 and 0-4 in conference play.

First Game ActionÂ
The Vikings scored three in the bottom of the third to take the lead which ended up proving to be enough. They added three more in the fifth and one more in the sixth for the 7-0 win. Peru State's only real scoring threat was in the top of the second inning.
Mark McGinnity hit

Grand View scored their seven runs on nine hits and committed one error. Peru State had five hits and also had one error.

Seth Thomason (Crestview, Fla.), Sterling Rupp (Grand Island), Travis Navarro (San Jacinto, Calif.), and
Caleb Dameron (Henderson, Colo.) each had a single for the Bobcats.

Ryan Hirschfeld (Brush, Colo.) started on the mound for the Bobcats and was tagged for the loss. Hirschfeld threw 5 innings and allowed 8 hits, 6 earned runs, and struck out 3.
Matthew Sontag (Davie, Fla.) tossed 1 inning and allowed 1 hit and 1 run – not earned.

In the top of the third,
Chaz Dunn (Falls City) walked to start the inning and moved to second when Dameron singled.
Kadyn Glass (Redlands, Calif.) laid down a sacrifice bunt with the runners advancing. McGinnity hit a sacrifice fly and Dunn was able to score to put the 'Cats on top 1-0.

In the top of the fourth,
Edwin Rodriguez (Ponce, Puerto Rico) singled to start things off. After an out, Navarro walked. Dunn singled to drive in Rodriguez to put Peru State ahead 2-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Vikings went off for five runs to go up 5-2. Grand View would add one run in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 6-2.

Chaz Dunn drove in
two RBI in game 2In the top of the eighth, Peru State would get on the board again. Rodriguez walked and went to second on a wild pitch. Rupp walked and then both base runners advanced on another wild pitch. After an out, Dunn grounded out, but Rodriguez was able to score. Dameron walked and then Glass singled to load the bases. McGinnity singled to drive in two to make it 6-5 at that point.

The Vikings would add an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth which proved to be enough for the 7-5 win.

Grand View scored their seven runs on 13 hits and did not commit any errors. The Bobcats scored their five runs on eight hits and had two errors.

McGinnity, Rodriguez, and Dameron each had two hits to lead Peru State. McGinnity had three RBI while Dunn finished with two RBI.

Andrew Robinson (Imperial Beach, Calif.) threw the first 4 innings for Peru State and suffered the loss. Robinson allowed 7 hits, 5 earned runs, and struck out 1.
Tyler Wheelock (Omaha) threw the final 4 innings. Wheelock allowed 6 hits and 2 runs – 1 earned.

The Bobcats will host William Penn (Iowa) University on Tuesday in a Heart double header beginning at 1 p.m. The Statesmen are 12-5 overall and are 3-1 in the conference.

Then, on Friday, Peru State will travel to Marshall, Mo., to take on Missouri Valley College in another conference double header beginning at 1 p.m. The Vikings are 11-11 and 2-2 in the Heart.

The 'Cats will stay on the road and play Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, on Saturday, March 26. The Yellowjackets are 9-18 overall and are 3-1 in conference action.
