(Peru, Neb.) – If you are to believe conference pre-season polls, the Hastings College Broncos lived up to their billing as the number two team in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Thursday. The Broncos came to Peru and handed the Bobcats two run-ruled losses 18-3 and 16-0.
 
It was the season opener for both teams with Hastings improving to 2-0 while the 'Cats fell to 0-2.
 
Game One Highlights
 
Actually, the way the first inning went, the Peru State fans might have thought the final ending would be different. The Bobcats shut the Broncos down in the top of the first.

In the bottom of the first, Sydney Armbruster (Falls City) started with a double to deep left-center and was followed by a single thru the hole at shortstop by Chelsea Reznicek (Omaha). Halle Halloway (Waco) singled to shallow center to load the bases. Cheyenne Dalrymple (Stockton, Calif.) was hit by a pitch which scored Armbruster. Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) singled to deep center to drive in Reznicek and Holloway would eventually score on the throw. At that point, Peru State led 3-0. A double-play and a strikeout would end the scoring for the Bobcats – not just for that inning, but for the day.
 
In the top of the second, Hastings scored three runs to tie it at 3-3. After a scoreless third inning, the Broncos broke it open in the top of the fourth as they scored eight runs on eight hits. Hastings would add another seven runs in the top of the fifth and went on to win 18-3.
 
Hastings scored its 18 runs on 20 hits and committed one error. Peru State scored its three runs on seven hits and also had one error.
 
Holloway went two for three for Peru State while Armbruster, Reznicek, Ritchie, Kayla Guerrero (Omaha), and Hailey Davis (Lincoln) each added one hit. Dalrymple and Ritchie each had one RBI.
 
Nicole Reznicek (Omaha) started on the mound for the Bobcats and threw three innings and suffered the loss. Reznicek gave up eight hits, six earned runs, and struck out two. Taylor Moya (Keenesburg, Colo.) tossed the final two innings. Moya gave up 12 hits and 12 runs – nine earned.

Game Two Highlights
 
With the exception of three walks, Hastings held the Bobcats hitless in the second game. The Broncos scored four in the first, nine in the second, one in the third, and two in the fourth in route to the 16-0 win.

Ritchie was on the mound for the Bobcats and took the loss. She allowed 18 hits and 16 runs – nine earned. The bright spot for Ritchie's performance was that she struck out nine batters.

Peru State is not scheduled to play again until March 2 when they host the College of St. Mary Flames at 2 p.m. It will be the Flames' first contests of 2016.
