(Peru, Neb.) – The Bobcat volleyball team traveled to York to face the Panthers of York College and came home with a sweep to improve to 4-1 on the season. Peru State won 25-16, 25-13, 25-16. With the loss, the Panthers fell to 1-5.

York had its only lead at 1-0 and the set was tied at 1-1 and 2-2 before the 'Cats pulled out to an 11-3 which was assisted by numerous attack errors by the Panthers. Another attack error by York gave the Bobcats the first set in which the Panthers had a negative hitting percentage.

Three kills by
Nadja Janjevic (Podgorica, Montenegro) and two by
Rian Kirby (Gretna), all coming off assists by
Brooke Rudebusch (Moorpark, Calif.), gave Peru State a 5-0 lead to start the second set. The Panthers did cut the deficit to three at 8-5, but a 17-8 run by the 'Cats gave Peru State the second set win.

Third Set ActionÂ
After the set was tied at 1-1, kills by
Cristal Quinonez (Anthony, N.M.) and Kirby put the Bobcats in the lead for good to start the third set. A service ace by Janjevic finished the set and gave Peru State the three-set sweep.

Statistical LeadersÂ
Kirby and Quinonez led Peru State in kills with 13 and 12 respectively. Janjevic added nine as the team finished with 42 kills while hitting .241 for the contest.
Rian KirbyÂ
Rudebusch was the game's top setter as she finished with 33 assists.

Janjevic,
Gianna Gangi (Simi Valley, Calif.), and
Savannah Moore (Idaho Falls, Idaho) each had two service aces while
Shannon Liewer (Imperial) added one.

Liewer led all defenders with 19 digs with Gangi and Kirby each contributed 11.

Janjevic had two solo blocks and four block assists to lead the 'Cats in blocking.
Alex Bowman (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and Kirby each finished with four block assists while Rudebusch and
Meg Grose (Peoria, Ariz.) were each credited with two block assists.

Upcoming GamesÂ
Peru State will participate in the Kansas Wesleyan Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, September 5 and 6, in Salina, Kan.

The Bobcats will first face Bethany (Kan.) and McPherson (Kan.) at 12 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Swedes are presently 1-1 while the Bulldogs have started the season with a 2-0 mark.

On Saturday, Peru State will play back-to-back games against Friends (Kan.) at 12:30 p.m. and then Tabor (Kan.) at 2:30 p.m. The Cardinals dropped their season opener which was to the defending NAIA champs, Park (Mo.). The Blue Jays are currently 2-3 with all three losses coming to Heart opponents.

The following Wednesday, Sept. 9, Peru State will play its first Heart of America Athletic Conference game in Atchison, Kan., against Benedictine. The Ravens are presently 1-2.
