(Peru, Neb.) – A 4-2 lead going into the eighth inning was not enough for the Peru State Bobcat baseball team in their second elimination game in the NAIA Baseball Championship Opening Round Wednesday night. The Grand View Vikings overcame that deficit and defeated the 'Cats 6-4 in ten innings.
With the loss, Peru State fell to 39-16 for the year. The 39 wins are the second most wins in Peru State baseball history with only the 2002 squad's 40 wins better than this year's mark.
Grand View improved to 23-21 and will continue play in the Grand Rapids regional on Thursday.

Peru State's first run. Game Action This time the Bobcats would get on the scoreboard first against Grand View. In the bottom of the second,
Adam Quintana (Highland, Calif.) would single to left center. After an out, Quintana stole second.
Mark McGinnity (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) hit a double down the left field line to drive in Quintana for the first run of the game. After two complete innings, Peru State led 1-0.
In the top of the third, the Vikings were able to score a run on two hits to tie the game at 1-1.
After the first two outs in the bottom of the third,
Randy Santiesteban (Hialeah, Fla.) hit a home run over the left field fence on a 2-1 count to make it 2-1 Peru State. This was Santiesteban's second home run of the day having hit on in the win over Mount Vernon Nazarene in the first game of the day.
Two scoreless innings later, Grand View added a run in the top of the sixth to tie it at 2-2.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, after an out,
Marshall Klontz (Lake Tapps, Wash.) reached on a walk. After the second out,
Kyle Killen (Commerce City, Colo.) also reached on a walk. That brought Santiesteban to the plate. Santiesteban produced a triple which would drive in both base runners to put the Bobcats up 4-2 at the time.
Grand View would not go away and added a run in the top of the eighth to cut the deficit to 4-3. In the bottom half of the inning, the Bobcats looked like they had a good scoring opportunity with runners on first and second with no outs, but the Vikings were able to get a double play to squelch the initial threat and then the next Bobcat struck out.
Luke Schneider started the game for Peru
State and went seven and one-third innings The Vikings tied the game in the top of the ninth with one run. However, Grand View had opportunities to take the lead as they left the bases loaded. Peru State could not score in the bottom of the ninth forcing the game to go into extra innings.
In the top of the tenth, the Vikings managed to get a two-run home run to go up 6-4. That would prove to be enough as the Bobcats could not score in the bottom of the inning and dropped their second game of the opening round to Grand View.
The Vikings scored their six runs on ten hits and had no errors. Peru State scored their four runs on eight hits and committed two errors.
Quintana went four for five and scored one run to lead Peru State. Santiesteban was a single short of hitting for the cycle as he went three for five with a double, triple, and home run while leading the team with three RBI. McGinnity collected the only other hit for Peru State and had the other RBI.
Luke Schneider (Monument, Colo.) started the game for the Bobcats and tossed seven and one-third innings. Schneider allowed four hits, three runs – two earned, and struck out one.
Miguel Navarro (San Jacinto, Calif.) came in to relieve Schneider and threw the final two and two-third innings. Navarro allowed six hits and three earned runs while being tagged for the loss.
