Peru State Baseball Splits With Midland

(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State baseball team travelled to Fremont to face the Midland University Warriors in a non-conference double header on Monday. The Bobcats and Warriors split the pair of games with the 'Cats taking game one 8-4 and dropping the second contest 20-4.

With the split, Peru State is now 26-9 on the season. The Warriors are 17-24.

Game One Action

Neither team score in the first inning. In the top of the second, Seth Walston (Hemet, Calif.) hit a home run to give the 'Cats a 1-0 lead. That advantage was short-lived as Midland tied it up in the bottom of the second.

In the top of the third, after two outs, Kyle Killen (Commerce City, Colo.) singled. Randy Santiesteban (Hialeah, Fla.) doubled to drive in Killen and went to third on an error, but was stranded after a ground out. At that point, Peru State was up 2-1.

Neither team would then score until the fifth inning. In the top of the inning, Jordan Silva (Lynnwood, Wash.) and Grant Hindman (Omaha) hit back-to-back home runs to put the Bobcats up 4-1. After a strikeout, Killen walked and went to second when Santiesteban singled. Scout Villanueva (Bakersfield, Calif.) singled to drive in Killen with Santiesteban stopping at second. Adam Quintana (Highland, Calif.) reached on an error with Villanueva moving to third and Santiesteban scoring. Quintana then stole second which was followed by a walk for Walston to load the bases. Mark McGinnity (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) singled to bring home Villanueva and Quintana. At the end of four and one-half, Peru State led 8-1.

Midland add two in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth, but it was not enough as Peru State won 8-4.

The Bobcats scored their eight runs on nine hits and had one error. Midland scored their four runs on five hits and had two miscues.

Santiesteban went three for three with one RBI to lead Peru State. McGinnity was credited with two RBI.

Daniel Muniz (Miami, Fla.) started on the mound and earned his third win of the season. Muniz allowed four hits, three earned runs, and struck out three. Cragin Missak (Bellevue) tossed two innings and allowed one hit and one earned run.

Game Two Action

Midland jumped on the Bobcats early in the second game as Peru State gave many back-ups the opportunity to play.

The Warriors scored two in the first, seven in the second, eight in the third, and three in the fifth to take a 20-0 lead before Peru State would get on the scoreboard.

In the top of the seventh, Brandon Melendez (Miramar, Fla.) singled and went to second when Joshua Alonzo (Riverside, Calif.) singled. On a double play, Melendez went to third and then scored on a wild pitch. Santiesteban started things again with a single and went to second when Hindman reached on an error. Chase Phillips (Highland, Calif.) hit a home run which proved to be the final scoring for the 'Cats.

The Warriors scored their 20 runs on just ten hits and had two errors. Peru State scored their four runs on 11 hits and had a season-high six miscues.

Patterson allowed six hits, 11 runs – four earned, and did not have any strikeouts. Mathew Sontag (Davie, Fla.) came in to relieve Patterson and did not record an out. But, Sontag allowed one hit and six earned runs as he gave up four walks. Angus Miller (Fontana, Calif.) recorded one out after allowing one hit and struck out one batter.
