(Peru, Neb.) – In what would be their next-to-last game of the season, the Peru State Bobcat softball team almost did what no one else had in 24 previous games.
The Bobcats had the eighth-ranked Central Methodist University (CMU) on the ropes as they held a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning before eventually falling 6-3. The Eagles took the second game 8-1.
With the losses, Peru State closed its season with a 10-32 overall mark and finished last in the Heart of America Athletic Conference with a 2-16 record. CMU improved to 37-6 overall and finished the conference with a perfect 18-0 mark.
First Game Statistics In the second game, CMU scored their six runs on 12 hits and had no miscues. The Bobcats scored their three runs, all in the second inning, on five hits and did not have any errors.

Cheyenne Dalrymple (Stockton, Calif.), Brittany McNeese (Gretna), Meghan McPolin (Orland Park, Ill.), and
Kayla Guerrero (Omaha), each had one hit. Guerrero, Reznicek, and
Jenna Gruber (Lincoln) each were credited with one RBI.
Nicole Reznicek (Omaha) pitched the second game and suffered the loss. She allowed ten hits, six earned runs, and struck out one.
The Eagles scored their eight runs on ten hits and committed no errors. Peru State scored their lone run on six hits and had three errors.
Six Bobcats had one hit in the game – Holloway, McNeese, Guerrero, McPolin, and Reznicek. McNeese was credited with the lone RBI.
Lauren Johnson (Seward) started the game and was tagged for the loss. Johnson threw five innings and allowed eight runs – six earned while striking out one. McNeese pitched one inning of relief and did not allow any hits or runs and struck out one.
