(Peru, Neb.) – It was not the Senior Day that the Peru State baseball team wanted. However, after losing their only home contest of the season in the first game, the Bobcats responded to gain a split with the visiting Missouri Valley College Vikings.
With the split, Peru State's regular-season record finished at 34-14 overall and 22-4 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference which included winning the regular-season title. The Vikings finished at 26-14 and 18-8 while winning the Eastern Division. The two teams will be the top two seeds in the upcoming conference post-season championship.
Joshua Alonzo heads home for the first run of the second game Game One Action The Vikings scored the only runs of the game in the top of the fourth as they plated two runs and left the bases loaded.
Peru State left two on base in the fourth and fifth innings, but could not push any runs across.
Missouri Valley scored their two runs on seven hits and committed no errors. Peru State had five hits in the game.
Joshua Alonzo (Riverside, Calif.), Randy Santiesteban (Hialeah, Fla.), Adam Quintana (Highland, Calif.), Seth Walston (Hemet, Calif.), and
Jordan Silva (Lynnwood, Wash.) each had one hit for Peru State.
Miguel Navarro (San Jacinto, Calif.) threw a complete game but was tagged for the loss. Navarro allowed seven hits, two earned runs, and struck out six.
MISSOURI VALLEY GAME ONE GAME BOOK Game Two Action Neither team scored until the third inning when Peru State got on the board first. After two outs, Alonzo singled to third and then went to second with a stolen base.
Kyle Killen (Commerce City, Colo.) reached on an error and then Santiesteban reached on a fielder's choice. Alonzo would eventually score on a wild throw to put Peru State up 1-0.
Peru State would add to its lead in the bottom of the fourth. After an out, Walston doubled to deep right.
Mark McGinnity (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) singled to right with Walston stopping at third. Silva doubled to deep left-center which scored Walston with McGinnity stopping at third. After the second out, Alonzo doubled to deep left-center to drive in both base runners. At the end of four complete innings, the Bobcats led 4-0.

Parker checking out the location of the ballMo Valley would score two in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 4-2. Later, in the top of the eighth, the Vikings would add two more to tie it at 4-4.
In the bottom of the eighth, Walston started things with a walk and went to second when McGinnity laid down a sacrifice bunt. After another out,
Chase Phillips (Highland, Calif.) singled to shallow right to drive in Walston. At the end of eight, the 'Cats led 5-4.
In the top of the ninth,
Manny Arciniega (Hemet, Calif.) struck out the entire side to give Peru State the split.
The Bobcats scored their five runs on 12 hits and had three errors. Mo Valley scored their four runs on seven hits and had two miscues.
Alonzo went three for five with two RBI to lead Peru State. McGinnity added two hits while Silva and Phillips each added one RBI.
Quintana started the game on the mound for Peru State and went seven innings. Quintana gave up four hits, two runs – one earned (his first since early March)
, and struck out a season-high 13 batters.
Luke Schneider (Monument, Colo.) pitched one inning and allowed three hits and two runs – one earned. Schneider was the pitcher of record when Peru State scored the winning run and was credited with the win. Arciniega tossed the one inning and struck out three to earn the save.
MISSOURI VALLEY GAME TWO GAME BOOK Upcoming Games The Bobcats will be participating in the Heart of America Athletic Conference post-season championship this coming week. The tournament starts on Thursday, April 30, and could run through May 5. It is being played at the Wendell Redden Stadium in Joplin, Mo.
Peru State is the top seed and will face eighth-seeded Central Methodist University at 10 a.m. on Thursday. With a win, the Bobcats would play on Friday at 4 p.m. against the winner between Avila University and Graceland University.
