(Peru, Neb.) – After getting beat in extra innings in the first game, the Bobcat softball team had a no-hitter thrown at them in the second game and dropped a pair of games at MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) on Friday.
The Pioneers won the first game 6-5 in eight innings and then took the second game 8-0 in six innings. MNU improved to 21-22 overall and 9-5 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Peru State fell to 10-24 overall and 2-10 in conference action.
Game One Action The Bobcats were the first to get on the board in the top of the second inning.
Cheyenne Dalrymple (Stockton, Calif.) reached with a walk. After an out,
Brittany Harward (Orem, Utah) singled to right with Dalrymple stopping at second.
Leah Quick (Kansas City, Mo.) doubled to deep right-center to drive in both runs. At that point, the 'Cats led 2-0.
Leah Quick had a double
in game one and two RBI MNU would score a run in the bottom of the third and then would add four in the bottom of the sixth to go up 5-2.
Peru State would tie the game in the top of the sixth.
Toni Blackwell (Papillion) singled to center and went to second when
Brittany McNeese (Gretna) singled to third.
Molly Holbrook (Lincoln) doubled down the right field line with both Blackwell and McNeese scoring to make it 5-4. On a ground out, Dalrymple went to third.
Halle Holloway (Waco) singled to shallow left-center with Holbrook knotting the game at 5-5.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Pioneers were able to push across the winning run to capture the first game.
The Pioneers scored their six runs on 11 hits and committed no errors. Peru State scored its five runs on six hits and had three errors.
Blackwell, McNeese, Holbrook, Holloway, Harward, and Quick each had one hit for the Bobcats with Holbrook and Quick being credited for two RBI each. Holloway had the other RBI.
Nicole Reznicek (Omaha) was on the hill for Peru State and suffered the loss. Reznicek allowed 11 hits, six runs – five earned, and struck out six.
MNU GAME ONE GAME BOOK
Molly Holbrook had a
double in game one and
had two RBIGame Two Action MNU scored one in the first, two in the second, one in the third, and then four in the sixth to force the game to end early with the mercy rule being invoked.
Lauren Johnson (Seward) suffered the loss for Peru State. Johnson allowed 14 hits, eight runs – seven earned, and struck out one.
MNU GAME TWO GAME BOOK Upcoming Games Peru State was to have hosted Benedictine College on Sunday in a conference double header. However, it has been postponed due to Saturday's rain and the anticipation of more rain on Sunday. The make-up date has yet to be scheduled.
On Tuesday, the Bobcats are scheduled to travel to Kansas City, Mo., to face Avila University in a double header starting at 2 p.m. Currently, the Eagles are 23-9-1 overall and are 9-5 in the Heart.
On Wednesday, Peru State is scheduled to play its final non-conference games of the season when they travel to Fremont to take on Midland University. The double header with the Warriors is to begin at 5 p.m. Midland is presently 16-19 on the season.
The final regular season games for Peru State are scheduled for Saturday, April 25. The 'Cats will travel to Fayette, Mo., to face the Eagles of Central Methodist University. Currently, Central Methodist is ranked ninth and are 32-6 overall and remain undefeated in conference play.
