(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State baseball team was not too hospitable to their future Heart of America Athletic Conference foes on Thursday as they swept a double header from the Grand View University Vikings. The Bobcats won the first game 8-5 and took the second game 7-2.
With the pair of wins, the 'Cats improved to 12-6 overall and have won eight straight games. The Vikings, who have had 16 games cancelled this season, fell to 0-6 on the year.
Game One Action Neither team scored in the first after each team left one on base.
After stopping the Vikings in the top of the second, Peru State got things going in the bottom of the inning.
Adam Quintana (Highland, Calif.) singled thru the hole at second base and then stole second.
Seth Walston (Hemet, Calif.) hit a two-run home run over the right field fence to put the Bobcats up 2-0.
Mark McGinnity (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) singled thru the hole at shortstop and advanced to second when
Jordan Silva (Lynnwood, Wash.) singled to short.
Kyle Killen (Commerce City, Colo.) singled to deep left-center to load the bases. This brought up the top of the order and Josh Alonzo
(Riverside, Calif.) singled to the infield to drive in McGinnity. At the end of two full innings, the 'Cats led 3-0.

his teammatesGrand View would score one in the top of the third to cut the lead to 3-1, but, Peru State would come back to score in the bottom of the inning.
Scout Villanueva (Bakersfield, Calif.) doubled to deep center to start the bottom of the inning.
Brandon Melendez (Miramar, Fla.) came in to pinch run for Villanueva and advanced to third when Quintana flied out to deep right. Walston reached with a walk to put runners on the corners. On McGinnity's fly ball out, Melendez scored with Walston moving to second. Silva reached base on a Viking error and Walston was able to score on the play. At the end of the third, the Bobcats led 5-1.
Grand View responded in the top of the fourth by scoring four runs to tie the game at 5-5.

Grant Hindman (Omaha) reached on a walk as did
Randy Santiesteban (Hialeah, Fla.). Peru State tried a double steal with Hindman going to third, but Santiesteban was caught stealing. After a pitching change, Villanueva singled to second to drive in Hindman. The Bobcats would eventually load the bases, but could not bring in any more runners. After four complete innings, the 'Cats led 6-5.
Peru State would add some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. After the first out, Villanueva doubled over the right field fence. Again, Melendez entered to run for Villanueva. Quintana stepped to the plate and hit a two-run home run over the center field fence on a 0-1 count. That would be the end of the scoring, but the Bobcats led 8-5 which was the eventual final score.
The Bobcats scored their eight runs on 12 hits and committed one error. Grand View scored their five runs on nine hits and had two miscues.
Villanueva went three for four with one RBI to lead the 'Cats. Quintana and Killen each added two hits with Quintana and Walston each having two RBI.
Angus Miller picked up the win in the first gameDaniel Muniz (Miami, Fla.) started on the mound for Peru State and pitched three innings and started the top of the fourth where Grand View did their damage. Muniz allowed five hits, five earned runs, and struck out one.
Cragin Missak (Bellevue) tossed two-thirds of an inning and allowed two hits.
Angus Miller (Fontana, Calif.) came in to relieve Missak and threw two and one-third innings and allowed just one hit. Miller was credited with the win. Quintana tossed the seventh inning and earned the save.

In the bottom of the first, after the first out, Killen doubled to deep right-center. Santiesteban would single and Killen would score to make it 1-0.
In the bottom of the second, Walston reached on a walk and then stole second. McGinnity reached on a walk and then
Charles Lutz (Riverside, Calif.) singled to short to drive in Walston. After two complete innings, the Bobcats led 2-0.
The Vikings would cut the deficit in half in the top of the third to make it 2-1.
After the first out of the bottom half of the third inning, Melendez singled to left. Killen doubled to deep left-center to bring Melendez home. Santiesteban was hit by a pitch and then Quintana singled thru the hole at second base to bring Killen home. That would be the end of the scoring, but the 'Cats led 4-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, McGinnity reached base with a single to center and went to third went Lutz singled to shallow left. McGinnity would score in the inning with a stolen base to up the Peru State lead to 5-1.
Grand View would score their final run in the top of the fifth making the score 5-2.
Killen would start the bottom half of the fifth with a walk and then was caught stealing. Santiesteban would also reach on a walk and then successfully stole second. On a fly ball out, Santiesteban advanced to third. Walston would reach with a walk and again the Bobcats tried a double steal with Santiesteban scoring and Walston moving to second. McGinnity would drive in Santiesteban with a single to shallow center. That would be the end of the Bobcat scoring, but it was enough to give the 'Cats a 7-2 win.
Adam Quintana hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning of the first game. Quintana
finished the day with four hits.Peru State scored seven runs on ten hits and had one error. The Vikings scored two runs on seven hits and had no errors.
Killen, Quintana, McGinnity, and Lutz each had two hits to lead Peru State. Killen, Santiesteban, Quintana, McGinnity, and Lutz were each credited with one RBI.

(Valdosta, Ga.) tossed a complete game for the win. Patterson allowed seven hits, two earned runs, and struck out four.

win the second game of the double headerGRAND VIEW GAME TWO GAMEBOOK Upcoming Games The Bobcats traveled to Canton, Mo., late Friday afternoon and are facing Culver-Stockton College on Saturday in a Heart double header. The teams are scheduled to begin play at 1 p.m.
On Sunday, Peru State will be back at home for a non-conference match-up with Dakota Wesleyan University from Mitchell, S.D. The double header has been moved to begin at 2 p.m. The Tigers are 8-6 on the season and have won their last two games.
